Turned what most people drive into a pretty decent shuttle hike just had to walk from Lockwood Valley Rd to Cedar Creek TH because the road was closed for winter.

Early morning light  Sucess!

Nice early morning light made this an enjoyable warmup hike, from the campground along meandering trails to the rocky and forested summit

Wanted to do more  Sucess!

Great road leading almost to the TH, it changes to dirt for only the last mile or so. The hike to Reyes has a couple of really steep sections, but they can be somewhat mitigated by following one of the multitude of switchbacks. Great views from summit rocks. Wanted to get Haddock but that area was closed off.

Charro Grande Canyon to Reyes Peak  Sucess!

Left the trailhead at 5:30am with the flutter of quail wings in the first light. Temperature in the upper forties, no wind and no clouds in the morning sky, chilly. Up the Charro Grande Canyon as the temperatures rose. Up 3000 feet in 5 miles to Pine Mountain Road, past Chumash memories in a lite south, southwest wind. On Reyes Peak it was hot, upper nineties, low one hundred degrees. Chapped lips and a dry mouth blew cross the Cuyama badlands as I backtracked my steps. Down the Charro Grande to a total of 17 miles and 3500 feet of elevation gain. Tough day....

Thanksgiving trip  Sucess!

Started from the trailhead on Pine Ridge hoping to make a backpacking loop down to the valley to the north. I couldn't find the trail down by Haddock, and burned through my water and energy trying to find it. Hiked back to the TH, spent the night in the campground, and got out just as a major snowstorm hit. Guess it wouldn't have turned out well anyway! View from Reyes to Haddock were amazing, with the Channel Islands visible.

Reyes Peak TH  Sucess!

I needed an easy hike after recently tweaking my knee, so Reyes & Haddock fit the bill nicely. I really enjoyed the trails to both of these peaks and highly recommend continuing on to Haddock after Reyes.

Reyes/Haddock Loop  Sucess!

Cold & windy day but crystal clear. Hike up from Chorro Grande TH with the gang and Zeus the dog. Haddock is easily the more interesting of the two peaks.

Reyes Peak Trail  Sucess!

This was more enjoyable than I thought it would be. A nice bootpath, some steep, some flat and a few rocks to play around on at the end.

Nice trees  Sucess!

A cool little peak, closest +7000 peak in California to the coast. Did Pinos in the morning and then drove to here, ran up, and then back to Santa Barbara, a long interesting day.
