Rhododendrons in Snow

Rhododendrons in Snow

One of the reasons why I love the Smokies in Spring -- Rhododendrons in snow. The wide leaves hold snow well but their green peeks through, and their shape gives the scene texture. Early March 2008.

Re: Beautiful!

Thanks for your kind words - - I'm still trying to capture on film the way that rhododendrons in snow *feel* - - may never succeed.

Snow conditions at 4000 feet in the Smokies in March are . . . completely unpredictable. They got more than 12" in places during the snow that dumped an inch or two down here (at 2000 feet). It can also be 75 degrees and clear.
