Thick fog
Only a three minute walk up the road from the gate. No views, but with the elevation I bet it’s nice up there on really hot days.

Talimena Scenic Byway
This was the culmination of the scenic drive my son and I took during the Thanksgiving holidays. We had visited all six of the 2660+ foot highpoint areas in Oklahoma and ended up eating lunch here at the Arkansas summit. We were disappointed to see that the tower was closed even though the day was mild and it was a Sunday. Noone else was there the whole time we visited. Very enjoyable drive along the whole route.

Windy Day on Lovers Leap
The pic on my profile is on the end of the Lover's Leap trail. Very pretty trail, and during leaf off the pictures were wonderful. It was VERY windy on this trail, so hard to keep the camera still.

Couple Short Hikes
Hiked the Lover's Leap trail (entire loop), and the Dwarf Oak Trail. The Dwarf Oaks are cool: Oak trees that in the valley below grow to 115 feet, but are limited to about 10-20 feet of height on the windblown ridge (and it was windy the day I hiked!).

Cool Mountains
One doesn't associate mountains like these in Oklahoma. Reminds us of the hills & mountains back in Pennsylvania.
Hiked this area many times. Rich Mountain extends well into Oklahoma and is actually a long, long ridge. Fall is the perfect time to hike the trails. Wait until mid-November after the leaves start turning to get some outstanding photography. Winter-time mild days are also nice as well as early spring. If you're lucky, you may see a bear! Stay away in the summer due to ticks, poison ivy, snakes, and spiders that spin webs across the trails. Also, water is usually scarce in summer.
