AT NoBo from Carter Gap

Hmmm. I thought this peak was one hot southern mess of brush. We cussed our way through the thickets to the top as an afternoon "stroll" from camp in Carter Gap. Thankfully, my AT partner is still speaking to me...I fear she thinks I'm crazy after this. Southeast peak hunters must be mad to do this stuff all the time!!!

AT hike  Sucess!

I found solitude here around 7:30 AM after breaking camp at Carter Gap. This is a very peaceful place and I enjoyed it immensely.

Route Climbed: Appalachian Trail to bushwhack point. Date Climbed: 06-24-2005  Sucess!

I wanted to nab Ridgepole because it's such a notable peak in the Standing Indian Basin. And it presents an impressive profile from the top of Pickens Nose. So I headed up the AT from Mooney Gap and hiked to a bushwhack, stopping at a cliff along the way to snap a few long shots of Pickens Nose, which I had summitted two days before. It's a great peak in the middle of an impressive wilderness. If you like being in prime bear habitat and hiking in a solid, recovering hardwood forest, then this one's for you.
