Rime ice near the summit of rogers peak. A slabby surface layer made for lots of slipping and sliding on the way up. 3,24,05.

Re: Great shot!

thanks guys, glad you enjoyed the shot - we enjoyed this hike a bunch although cloudy weather killed most of our views and made route finding an adventure...

Pic of the week

I'd sure consider this as one. One of the best of this type I've seen. Were you guys able to drive up to Mahogany Flats or did you have to hike in from the Charcoal Kilns?

Re: Pic of the week

thanks for the compliment Dean - we had to hike from charcoal kilns, the road to MH was snow-covered - i guess that adds another 3 mi r/t. On the whole this hike was harder than we had expected.

Mine got more rime than yours

See here

But in all other respects your picture is better by far. Conditions must have been very similar. We had those slabby ice covered slopes as well, clouds and - you name it - rime...

Awesome!

Hmmm...I think if I were standing at a distance, say, at the bottom of that slope, I'd probably say to myself: I didn't know that Goliaths - giant tarantulas - survive in winter - LET'S GET THE HELL OUT OF HERE!! ;-)))
