Hiked/climbed with SLCGrant and Greg Jagielski. Bluebird day- mellow trail and hike, until the scree before the final scramble, but it wasn't too bad. Great day!
Camped near timberline, climbed the magnificent Rio Grande Pyramid, then descended back to the trail and made my way up to the Window. I was on first one to summit and had it to myself for a half an hour. I was a bit surprised later in the day to look up and see people still climbing into the teeth of dark clouds.

Big Pile of Rocks
Beautiful area. Big pile of rocks though...
Do yourself a favor and DO NOT descend via the south side toward the Window. It's a mess. Rather, descend via the standard route and then traverse over to the Window. BTW: I lost a Garmin GPS on the south side about 100 ft below the summit. Thank you!

I returned after thirteen years to climb RGP again. It was nice to come back. This visit was more lighthearted than the last...
A fun hike/run from Rio Grande Reservoir on a perfect fall day. I visited the Window first, then stayed high to intersect the standard route near the base of the summit talus-cone. This is much faster/easier than doing the two as separate out-and-backs. Trip report.

nice hike
solo with duchess, the streams were huge after all the rain and floods Colorado got. What happened to the Indian summer.
We did first Window Peak, then window and let the pyramid for the last hike. The trail was super muddy lower down and snowy higher up.
Finished Colorado's Highest 100 Peaks with an ascent of this peak on 9.2.12. My friends Kevin and Sarah also finished together with me, and our friends Kevin, Caroline, Joe, Keegan, Kimo and Kelly came along to join in the celebration. It was a nice milestone to hit on my (hopefully) very long peak climbing career!

standard approach
Hiked in and camped 5/26. 5/27 - Went to 13,278, then 13,261, then up RGP, and hiked out. (sarcasm alert!) Good thing I carried in the axe and snowshoes. (end sarcasm alert) 13,261 had a fun summit!

RGP and the Window
Amazing place. This will be one of my most memorable climbs. The peak itself has some loose spots but the views and the remoteness more than make up for it. One of the very best in Colorado.

Twice
11/17/07 - Were were lucky to be able to do this hike so late in the season. The lack of snow was odd, but we took advantage of it and backpacked into the Rincon La Vaca drainage. From high camp we made a loop over UN 13017, "Window Peak", Rio Grande Pyramid, UN 13278 & UN 13261. Long day in a remote, magical kind of place.
1/19/18 - Solo hike up the standard route. Very dry but I did need snowshoes below treeline. Returned via ridge over "Fools Pyramid", UN 13,261 and Simpson Mountain.

Glen and I climbed up to the ridge to Point 12,911 and ridge hiked the whole way across to Point 13,278 up RGP East Slopes and down it's south facing couloir and over to "The Window".
Stopped multiple times. The weather was as perfect as one could wish for. NO WIND in three days!! Amazing.
This drainage and mountain are spectacular and awe-inspiring. Well worth the time to make this hike/climb.
Saw a herd of 30+ elk and two moose.
