Started at about 10,800ft on Hermit Pass Road. Hiked up Rito Alto, then Hermit, then Eureka, and made my way back to the road near Horseshoe Lake. Very windy day. About 11.5 miles in 6h40m. Just missed Mike Garratt by 6 days (he'd signed the tiny makeshift summit register on Eureka).

hermit pass road
hiked rito alto and hermit with layne from the hermit pass road. the wind was fairly tame for november in the sangres and views from rito alto's summit were stunning! love those sangre views!
Loop of PT 12671, Rito Alto, Hermit and Eureka from 9600' (just below lower Rainbow TH) on the Hermit Pass Road. Great loop of peaks, 4x4 could start much higher if you wanted to, Horseshoe Lake would work well as a "trailhead" for this group.

From 12K on Hermit Pass Rd.
Was hoping to drive all the way to the pass, but a snow drift at ~12K' covered the entire road. Easy stroll up the south ridge from the pass. Continued on to "Peak of the Clouds", Spread Eagle, & "Silver."

Camp Fire Start
At 4am sitting around the camp fire at 11k feet drunk off my ass my buddy said we had to climb Rito Alto right now, so that's what we did. The stumble up went by quick, and the sunrise on the summit ridge was fantastic. It was surprisingly cold for August.
