Normal route from la Riposa in this "dry" winter. Snow/ice only on the traverse after "la crocetta" at 3300 mt.
On a sunny and warm day....
Came from Ca d'Asti and did the taverse to Rifugio Cibrario, walked 19.5 km, climbed 1650 meters and descended 1900 meter this day.
Fairly rough terrain after the summit.
Turned back at about 2950 meters a.s.l.
Great climb with wonderful weather after a very bad stay at Rifugio Cà D'Asti.
We arrived at Susa early in the morning and the valley was covered by dark clouds. We started to hike in the fog but, after Refuge Cà d'Asti, a wonderful blue sky welcomed us. Summited in 3,30 hours from the parking under the Refuge la Riposa and basked in the sun for nearly 2 hours on the summit.
Once back to La Riposa we got some tea and slices of different cakes ( apple pie, strudel, chocolate cake...). If you are around I suggest you to pay a visit there. The lady who manages the refuge is very nice and, obviously, a great cook.
at the end of a one-week hiking trip along GTA (grade traversata delle alpi) route, starting at Ceresole Reale near Gran Paradiso, we climbed Rocciamelone from Rifugio Ca. d'Asti. A little hazy but great views. Not that many people during the week in September.
From Cà d'Asti I reached the summit in 1h.
The ring from Malciaussia lake to ref. Tazzetti, Rocciamelone, ref. Cà d'Asti and Malciaussia lake.. 5 years old, my first great mountain season..
Another time to the summit from Malciaussia lake on Jul 18 1998
Climbed the SE ridge from the Roccie Rosse, on Aug 25 2003
With my friend Francesco we slept in the refuge and then early in the morning to the top!
my second climb to this beautiful and "special" mountain!
Who knows , that
- Roccialmelone's summit was climbed as earfy as 1357?
- On its top there's the highest church in Europe,
- a mess is regularly celebrated there (5th of august, - but also usually on sundays in summer and august 15th)
- the summit has already been reached in...2h15 from Susa (according to italian sources)
Definetly an easy walk to get up to it, as a warm up, an acclimatizing climb, a place to bring beginners, just for training or... for religious purposes!!! Everyone will be pleased ther with this italian touch!
Also pleasant avoiding the crowded summer period.
Bivouac near the Arcelle chalets, about 2100 m. in the Ribon valley. Followed the usual Rochemelon glacier right bank route. You seldom find many persons climbing that side...Nice weather.
My first high mountain. (i was 11 y.o.)
We left Milan at 8:00 pm, slept in our car.
In the morning beautiful wheather.
Between Cà d'Asti and Crocetta it become foggy and cloudy.
From Crocetta some ice.
We summit at 11 AM , no panorama and Rocciameone Church and Bivac under a lot of ice
I left at 6:00 the ca'dasti cabin en walked for about 2 hours to reach la crocetta. Because of the really bad weather i desided to return to te cabin. The path to la crocetta is a well marked trail and was not difficult at all, I don't know what the path to the summit is like.
