Nice elevation route  Sucess!

Went up with a water bottle and a snack, trail running style - hike up, jog down. Saw a grouse near the summit.

Nice workout  Sucess!

Hiked and snowshoed up to the top and back down the Rocky Canyon route, took 4 hours up and 2 1/2 hours down. Extremely windy on the last 500 feet to the top but otherwise a picture perfect day. Used crampons only near the bottom of the descent as teh warm weather resulted in some tricky ice near the creek. Trip report is at http://www.mountainhiker.org/trip_report.aspx?id=81

The No Nonsense Trail  Sucess!

Since it is only a 25 minute drive from my home in South Lake Tahoe, I have been hiking and snowshoeing this mountain since 1979. One summer in the early 80s I made it a daily hike for over two months, since I was a teacher and had the summers off. I even did some trail maintenance with rakes and hedge trimmers cut back the manzanita and other brush and rake off rocks and debris for the first part until you reach the 8000 foot plateau where the peak comes into view. This route has become extremely popular since the advent of the internet where routes like Rocky Canyon can be easily viewed online. I have also hiked to the summit from Forni Creek, Lyons Canyon, Horsetail Falls into Desolation Wilderness up the west ridge and up several other nearby direct drainages.

Boot camp  Sucess!

Climbed this route with SMG as an overnighter. Base camped just below tree line at about 9500'. Lots of snow and perfect weather on summit day. Great place to practice snow skills and just have a good time.

Good training  Sucess!

did this hike with squishy to train for Brewer in SEKI. the trail(head) is less than 50 ft east from where the canyon hits HWY 50. there's a big downed tree (3 ft in diameter or so) which the trail runs past, quite close to the road. there is no trail with a snowpack.

Quickest  Sucess!

This is about the most direct route to the summit. Fairly agressive day hike, too.
