Rocky Islands in the C & O Canal

Great Falls, Chesapeake & Ohio Canal

October 2, 2010

This particular area is known as "Widewater" which indicates a natural wide basin where the barges were able to pass in the canal.

When I first saw this scene in the distance it reminded me a bit of the lakes in Maine or a lake in the Adirondacks in miniature. Again, most people would never think of the C & O Canal as changing so much from mile to mile.

Excellent picture!

Everything - the water, the trees and the sky - has a great color on this shot of yours!
