Given the Niagra Glen, this should pass, but I really think you should incorporate the adjacent shore-Carderock which is a traditional climbing spot since the20's or 30's.
This is accessible from my apartment by bike, and is really my kind of climbing. Great Falls has lots of rock climbing, but I do not plan to put up anymore pages for Great Falls due to serious time constraints. Maybe some other DC area SPers will follow my lead and put up some Great Falls pages, but do not expect anymore from me. If you have any other information, you think it would be useful for me to add to this page, please put it in add info. Thanks for the vote, and thanks for the interest!
I'll agree and say that this is marginally a peak. Still, a very worthwhile destination for hiking or climbing. I've spent quite a while in the area (though never actually climbed the pinnacles in question). Hard to believe it's only 15 miles upstream from the nation's capitol.
What else should I include for this to be a complete page? The 1st back summit rises reasonably high above the area, and takes 20 minutes of class 2, 3, and possibly class 4 climbing to reach the top. I think this is a fine area for climbing for DC residents. So, how does this justify 3 stars?
Sorry, hit the wrong button there. You might menion that there are a couple climbing guides to the area. I'll link one momentarily, but several others exist. There is also a wealth of information on cycling the C&O canal. I've got a ton of photos from the area which I'll dig up in the next week or two.
I have a feeling this will be a page that many people can add information to. I considered that when creating the page. Just post the best of the best of your photos, because 50+ photos on this site, may be excessive.
Nicely done! Unlike others believe, the elevation has nothing to do with the wonderful climbing that's in the area. Great job on this page and your photos are nice as well! Great job and keep up the good work!

Untitled CommentThanks. The rocky islands are only about 200 feet above sea level. This is the Potomac River, ya know.

Untitled CommentI agree. As long as there is something substantial to climb, it deserves a place on summitpost.
