ski roundtop  Sucess!

It's exciting to climb the final class 3 section with tele boots. We used ice axe, crampon on the approach to the saddle.

West Ridge  Sucess!

We had hoped to climb Whitney but had to make due with Round Top due to the thunderstorms blowing through the Sierras. This was a great little peak though. Nice views of the Tahoe area from the top. We climbed it in about 2.5 hours CTC.

West ridge from Sisters  Sucess!

From Round Top Lake, I climbed to the saddle between the Sisters, bagged them both, then traversed east all the way to the east summit of Round Top. Only 10 or 15 feet of class 3 near the summit, other than that it was fairly easy class 2/use trail.

Howling Winds  Sucess!

Upon cresting the saddle between Round and The Sisters I was met with 30-40 mph winds. Once on top the wind was so fierce it almost knocked me down a few times. Could see Mt. Diablo from the summit.

Crescent Moon  Sucess!

I got up to the trailhead late after finishing up some work in SLT. The snow was real soft on the way to Winnemucca Lake and I saw someone just starting up the couloir. By the time I put on crampons at the base I thought he must be on top. Once I entered the couloir it was soft snow but easy climbing because the steps were kicked in. After going up to section where the right fork splits off I heard a noise from above and saw a piece of ice come zipping down. There was a steady rain of small snow and ice chuncks bouncing down the chute for a while but then it finally stopped. When I got to the top there was a guy putting his crampons away and was getting ready to ski the west ridge. It was a great day out and there was a little more snow than I expected.

West Ridge to the East Summit  Sucess!

This definitely is one of my favorites.

The view from the summit was awesome; the hike was absolutely beautiful and pleasant. Wildflowers were abundant during this time of the year. Colors were everywhere with white clouds and crisp blue sky. It felt like a fairyland... kind of surreal.

I especially loved the last part because of the scrambling! (Always get especially excited when it's more a scrambling than hiking.) Felt a little bit dumb-headed for a few seconds after reaching the summit 'cuz I "almost" couldn't open the summit registry.

I will certainly be back - either in the summer or winter, ANYTIME! =D

Beautiful  Sucess!

A beautiful hike from the pass! Lots of wildflowers in the summer. Would be even more fun in the winter.

Route Climbed: West Ridge  Sucess!

Easy fun little walk-up with some great views and a great experience of being caught in a small blizzard in October. Next time I'll try the Crescent Moon.

Great Hike  Sucess!

Fun hike to the top, my second time. A bit of a scramble to the actual summit, just enough to keep me focused.

A very fun hike with awesome views

East Ridge  Sucess!

This climb certainly had its fun spots, but some of the awful scree we encountered and loose holds we found in some of the most exposed places make it difficult for me to recommend. We never encountered anything harder than class 3.

west ridge  Sucess!

Climbed with my friend Andrew. A lot of snow required snowshoeing, then a rock scramble at the top.

Climbed the steep east ridge with my dad. Weather was great, and the view was even better.

West Ridge  Sucess!

(June 2006) Climbed with snowshoes to the saddle where we stashed them. The rest of the way was clear of snow. Almost no wind on top with clear skies.

(June 2008) Traversed the ridgeline west of Round Top Lake to the Sisters and then on to Round Top

(May 2010) Black Butte, The Sisters, Round Top, and Elephants Back from Carson Pass
