when the ice moves fasterWe were on the west flank of Eiger this summer. (3 person) We were just having a conversation before sleeping, when suddenly we heard a much louder crack sound from the direction of Mönch than usually people can hear. We took a look there and we had been eyewitnesses of a huge icewall's (or serac) fall and enormous collapse with an unbelievable rumble! That was something I will never forget.
Maybe this mass of ice -which is visible in the shade- can get moving the same terrific way when it become unstable.

It has benn the dangerousest situation I lived on my "mountain life". Enormous icefall rolled down on us...we runned away as far as possible crossig the crevasses too!! A terrible exerience..:-((

Even though we know that ice masses in high altitude can make deadly movements, we like these sights very much. These make us feel the true size of us. I mean how little we are among these "giant" forms.
