Re: Granite?Yes, it's granite. The orange tint is due to the early morning sun. Yosemite Valley, all granite of course, is loaded with clean geometric cracks.

Wow..God that looks so sweet. I haven't climbed any real rock in months and I'm salivating looking at this!!!!! 10 minute approach?! Are you serious? I'll get there when I come back to the US next year. Have fun!!

and...funny, I thought it was sandstone too from the color. Show how a geologist, I am not. ;)

Re: and...Hi Christine, Most of the routes on this formation are pretty difficult, or just scary as in "Pratt's Crack" 5.9. This is a wide, very wide, crack that spits you right off, unless you are Chuck Pratt himself.
The reason it looks this color is that I took this shot early in the morning. But, trust me, it's granite.
