Nice little hike in the Medford area. The forests around the peak are quite cool and the summit area is very neat, and some great views are to be had if one pokes around a little. The north viewpoint in particular is spectacular. Be sure to hit the true summit, a little-visited but neat rockpile. Considered hitting the Table Rocks later in the day but in the end we didn't, they look interesting though. Good peak, would recommend

Great Views after an ok hike
Good views, but I don't like how the gates close on you and I don't like the parking area so much. You can see forever from up near the cell phone tower. Definitely worth hitting up once!

Alternative route...
On the way down. Were trying to get back to the car before they closed the gate! So yes thankful for deer trails :)
I'm now convinced that deer love grand vistas. I have followed deer trails a couple different times now to reach summits, versus taking the man-made routes. And on this hike in particular, the deer did not disappoint. They helped me avoid winding, muddy trails, and led right to the summit around some tricky spots.

Boot test
Went up to test Jill's new boots. Views are underrated ... it was worth the walk. Took 2 hours round trip from 2nd gate.

Beautiful day hike/climb
Tagged this one with my wife while we were living in Oregon for two years gaining job skills. Was part of my preparation for getting into shape to climb Mount Whitney. Great exercise. Saw a rattlesnake near the summit this day.
