After dropping to the Royce Lakes from Feather Saddle, the climb up Royce was a piece of cake. The route up to Merriam/Royce Saddle was still filled with snow and the route up the South Slope had just enough rock and various routes to keep me away from the scree. The summit views were great, but the descent was one of the best scree slides I've ever encountered. Such an amazing area to explore!

Climbed Royce and Merriam from basecamp at Honeymoon lake - which has some great campsites along the SE shore. Hunted around both highpoints on Royce but couldn't find a register

A day hike via Pine Creek Pass from a base camp at Honeymoon Lake. Lots of talus on the south-east side of Royce Lake #1, and then all the way to the saddle. Don't know if going around the north and east shores of the lake would be faster. Snow field below the saddle is still strong, and I used crampons/ice axe. No register at the summit. Several pictures from the hike.

From Royce Merriam Saddle
Up from the saddle after climbing Merriam. Stayed near the ridgeline on the right to have more class 2-3 boulders than the sand found in the middle of the slope. Thought about dropping down from the saddle to climb one of the more interesting looking ridges on the east face, but settled for this being the easy peak in the middle of better scrambling on Merriam and Feather. No register to be found on either of the similar elevation peaks. Continued down to the Royce-Feather saddle, then traversed over to the SW Ridge of Feather.

Royce Merriam in a day
Holiday weekend and the Sierras still felt empty, luckily. Boring second class climbing, but the views were worth it. Great rocky outcrop made me wish I had brought climbing gear. Part of a two day trip to check out Bear Creek Spire. I'll climb this one again.
Dayhike from Pine Creek Pass TH to Merriam and Royce. It snowed on me for most of the day, but luckily there wasn't too much wind so it wasn't very cold.

Easy scramble
Scrambled up from Honeymoon lake and to the Royce/Merrium col with my wife. We ended up turning around several hundred feet from summit as she was not feeling well.

From the saddle
The route up to the saddle was relatively easy with a small snow field only in the deepest darkest parts of the route which were easily avoidable. An easy second class romp up sand and rocks led to the summit. Awesome!

South Slope
From Honeymoon Lake via Pine Creek pass with MD who stayed at Royce Lakes for a few hours while I went up Merriam and then Royce. Was concerned I would need an ice ax on the permanent snow field below the saddle but I was able to stay on dry land the whole way up.

Slog up the south slope (a bit better by keeping close to the ridge) before dropping over to climb Feather Peak. Climbed Bear Claw Spire, Merriam, Royce, Feather, 12918, and Spire Peak over the weekend.

Thought we were outsmarting the weather with a morning climb, but we barely tagged the summit (BOTH of 'em since we weren't sure) before being chased off the ridge by the electricity in the air. Looked for a register on both but didn't find anything - admittedly we didn't look very hard or long once the crackling started. At 10 am.
