5th of seven  Sucess!

Only seventy eight minutes from the top of Gothics to the summit of Saddleback. I probably should have planned my hike better than to descend the south slope to Basin, then go back the same way for my return but it did keep the trail interesting.

Steep Cliffs are No Joke!  Sucess!

Hiked up Mt Haystack, Basin Mt and Saddleback Mt last, making it #46/46 for me! Awesome day, not a cloud in the sky, perfect temperature, slight breeze. Some spots on the cliffs can be a little unnerving if you're not used to them. Oh....don't fall! It's a long ways down! My fitbit had it at 21 miles and over 5,000 ft elevation gain, good way to finish.

HABASA

Hiked from the Garden to an ADK lean to on Friday night. Camped. Climbed Haystack, Basin and Saddleback on Saturday. Camped out 2nd night. Sunday we climbed Yard. GORGEOUS sunny weekend. Plenty of ice. Bring the biggest baddest crampons you have. We never used snow shoes. A wonderful weekend. Great fun!!!

Saddleback  Sucess!

So much fun to climb this as early winter storms pound the summit. Climbed in conjunction with Basin as a traverse in full packs from Bushnell Falls to Johns Brook Lodge.

Great climb  Sucess!

Summited Mount Haystack 4960' on a clear, beautiful Sunday the day before Colombus day. Our group of 3 parked at the Marcy Field lot, took the bus to the Garden trailhead, and hiked in a bit past Johns Brook Lodge to set up camp. We summited Haystack, Basin, and Saddleback on Sunday, and hiked out from the JBL area on Monday morning in the rain. Had a great breakfast at Noonmark Diner!

From the Saddleback/Basin col, the trail got gradually steeper until you hit the cliffs on the West face of Saddleback. A class 2 scramble with sections of class 3. Really enjoyed this section, but would have been rough in wet or icey weather. The summit is bare above the cliffs, but the rest of the mountain is wooded. A great climb nonetheless.

One hell of a scramble  Sucess!

Approaching the mountain from Basin allowed us to climb one of the most intense scrambles in the ADK's. This was the last mountain in our 3 high peak loop from mount Haystack.

Slant Rock-Basin-Saddleback-Gothic-Pyramid-Sawteeth-StHuberts  Sucess!

Hiked to Basin from Slant Rock and to Saddleback. After lunch we did Gothic and Pyramid Peak. On the way down we hit Sawteeth. Only remaining was the long walk back to the car in St Huberts. Long day, but super views all around especially on Pyramid!

Great Range Traverse  Sucess!

5th peak on a Great Range traverse. Man, there are some serious scrambles on the side facing Basin. I had heard about the cables on the west face of Gothics, but didn't know about this!

Sa  Sucess!

Finished the HaBaSa circuit with Saddleback and its infamous cliffs. The cliffs are a lot of fun. I didnt know what to expect since I had heard so much about them. There really is not any exposure and it's a tough scramble up them. Definitely seemed a class 4 move here and there but you can tweak your route up if you're comfy with it. I searched out some more difficult moves off the yellow blazes and it was a blast!! I wish the approach wasnt so long, because i'd love to hit these up more often. Oh yeah, the summit wasnt too bad either!
