Gorgeous views, great summit
Took a weekend to backpack into the valley between this and Handwerk. What a fantastic view! As always, photos don't do it justice. I can't believe I didn't see more wildlife, as there was sign everywhere. Just a few deer bouncing around.

Wind at the top was absolutely fierce. I took the time to read the summit register, found out only 4 parties summitted this year (and signed the register) and all within the last two weeks. Long hike from Corral Creek but totally worth it. High altitude basins are just cool to be in.

not-so direct route
mtn biked the approach for about 2 miles. halfway between the cabin and the spitzl I decided to ascend the ridge. while traversing the ridge, I spent a bunch of time down-climbing to avoid class 4 stuff (I had my dog with me). I eventually turned back and returned to the basin. from there straight up the south slopes for simple class 2.

cool day
pretty chilly day. I went up via Corral Creek and Pioneer Cabin. I made the mistake of not traversing into the north fork Hyndman drainage early enough and ended up doing a fair bit of needless climbing and then tedious down climbing. The rock is typical for the Pioneers- pretty stable and grippy granite. Nice views to the North from the summit. Surprisingly, there are still summit registers up here. A couple of people thought they were climbing Hyndman (headed north instead of west from the Hyndman trailhead)

The terrain is very Hyndman-like; long approach, big boulders, steep but just class 2. I hiked in from the North Fork of Hyndman Creek trail and then bushwacked up into the basin below the Spitzl. Headed up the south slopes to the ridge and then to the top. Great views all around. Its fun to look right down on Kane Lake.
