Vivian Creek  Sucess!

Nice hike...took 8 hours. Being a sea-level guy, definitely felt the thin air up top.

Various lumps  Sucess!

Went up S Fork, down Dollar Lake Saddle, over Jepson, Little and regular-sized Charlton. Nice flowers, and ... different. I'm amazed those three small subsidiary peaks have register boxes (though most are vandalized).

If San Antonio is Old Baldy, San Gorgonio should be Old Lumpy. The South Fork Trail takes forever to get to the point.

4th of July  Sucess!

We hiked up the Fish Creek trail, camped at Mineshaft Flats and then hiked to the summit on Saturday. Still have several large snow fields to cross on the trail between Mineshaft Flats and the summit. If we had known we could have turned off the trail before the last snow field and gone direct to the summit, that snow was steep and slippery.

3 Peaks  Sucess!

Climbed San Gorgonio, Grinnell Mountain, and Lake Peak via Fish Creek. Beautiful day, but water was a little sparse.

Once Again!  Sucess!

Solo hike Vivian Creek. Well I guess solo is not the right term as there were plenty of others on the trail. Lots of snow from high creek camp onwards. Took me 9 hours up and 6 down. Ugh!

With Jepson's North Couloir as an ascent, we took the fun way down on skis in the Big Draw. Awesome long line with terrific views!

Camped on Summit  Sucess!

First climbed as a snow trip in May 2005 and had just a great time, I got it into my head that it'd be cool to camp on an 11,000 ft summit in January.

Well, we did and it was great conditions until we got to the summit, so windy we could barely walk and we got no sleep at all. Couldn't wait until morning. Guess all those windmills below us should have been a clue. Wouldn't trade it for anything though.

Wind Blown  Sucess!

Unexpectedly gusty above 10,750'. Cached the skis there (wisely) and struggled to keep standing all the way to the summit. Had a nice trip down, though!

Delayed entry!  Sucess!

I have made this trip over twenty times using the Vivian Creek trail, and every time I get to the top I always say "..I think I'll try one of the other trails next time...". This was my son's first trip so I thought it would be a good idea to introduce him to switchbacks!!

First Summit  Sucess!

This is the first mountain my dad took me to climb. Made it up for the first time when I was 12. Look for the glow bugs in the summer months.

Another up Vivian Creek  Sucess!

Dayhiked to the top via Vivian Creek, but have also backpacked in from Dollar Lake. Great way to get some exercise and get out of the smog. First experience with Ticketron for a backcountry campsite ;-]

camped on top once  Sucess!

I went to the top eight times when I lived in SoCal. I always remember camping on top with my dad when I was 15 in 1981. Right as the sun was going down, some other camper stood on the highest rocks and was playing a flute with the sun behind him. Kind of a mystical 60's type moment.

Training for Mt. Whitney  Sucess!

We made it to the top of San Gorgonio yesterday via Vivian Creek trail. This is a great trail to train on for Mt. Whitney. I was hoping someone could confirm the round trip mileage for me as our Garmin GPS showed the total miles being a little over 18. But the trail descriptions show it as only being 16 miles round trip. We started measuring from when we left the parking lot and then up the road to cross over the river bed/wash.
