Route Climbed: Angelus Oaks to Vivian Creek along the Nine Peaks trail Date Climbed: June 29, 2003
Fourth peak of 4 climbed that day and the last of the "Nine Peaks" climbed on the trip. Ended up spending the night on top and it was the windiest night I've ever spent anywhere. Great trip to do though, I highly recommend it to anyone interested in a 3 day backpacking trip in the local mountains.
Route Climbed: Vivian Creek Trail Date Climbed: 12-21-2005
I made the summit today. This was my first attempt. Hurray! Ascent took 4hrs 15min, descent the same time. I'm not sure how that happened. Anyway, I hope this is a gateway for many more memorable hikes in the future (San Jacinto looked very tempting from the summit today). But now, I just want to go to bed.
Route Climbed: South Fork Trail Date Climbed: May 30, 2005
Very enjoyable hike! The wind made the summit very cold however. There were still about 5 feet of snow on the ground above 9000' too. Glissading back down on my butt was quite possibly the most fun I've ever had! Climbed San G's neighbor, San Jacinto, the next day.
Route Climbed: South Slope from Dragon's Head Date Climbed: November 5, 2005
After a nice lunch (brought left-overs from home: chicken, rice with tomatoes & onions) at the top of Dragon's Head, took me about 50 minutes to hike from the Dragon's Head to San Gorgonio's summit via its south slope. Climbed both peaks (Dragon's Head & San Gorgonio) in under 6 hours. Left the summit at 2:30pm. Got to my car at the Vivian Creek trailhead just before 6:30pm.
Route Climbed: via Vivian Creek Date Climbed: October 30, 2005
no problem reaching top. A little bit of lingering snow on exposed trail at 11,000 feet and up. Gorgeous day with clear skies, no wind and very few people.
Route Climbed: Vivian Creek Date Climbed: July, 1968
I've climbed it at least 4 times, summer and winter, but the most memorable was when I spent the night on top under a full moon in 1978 - it was so bright and clear I could see the ocean at night !
Camped overnight at High Creek. Spent the rest of the day getting to the peak and down. Turned out to be a really nice two day backpacking get away. If you want you can summit in one day but will be sore after.
Unusually, cool day. 38 degrees at Trailhead to start. Clear and cool at the Summit. There was a little snow left on top. Second time up the Greyback. Left at 7:15, summit at noon, (had lunch with a few squirrels for an hour ) and made it back by 3:45.
Route Climbed: Vivian Creek Date Climbed: 09/08/05
4th time up the mountain, this time as part of the So Cal 8000m Challenge endurance event. San G was Mt #2 of 3 on the day, up and down in just over 5h.
Great day on the mountain. Left trailhead ~ 7:20 A.M. Arrived summit via dry lake trail at ~ 1:30. Spent 1- hour for lunch on the way up at the old plane crash. Arrived back at the car at ~ 6:00 PM. First ever summit on SanG.
Route Climbed: Vivian Creek Date Climbed: September 7, 2005
First trip to San Gorgonio. Great weather and the trail was in great shape. The best part of the hike was at the end just when my legs were screaming "no mas" , the final decent to Vivian Creek. I really liked that.

The "quiet" side of the mountain. Extremely cold and windy at the summit. Saw an old plane crash on the trail, and water was tough to find.

Respectable hike, but worth the work.
Bonus: Saw a herd of 10 Big Horn Sheep.
