Vivian suffer Creek  Sucess!

The first time I went up via Fish Creek; less gain but even longer. I think I might actually prefer Vivian Creek...

We were above the clouds all day! If you are sensitive to altitude, the last 1000 feet are kind of a drag. Got a headache and my stomach was a little upset. Took Advil at the summit and then it was a fairly smooth sail down. Great for training!!

3rd Summit  Sucess!

We went up the Vivian Creek Trail to the top. Took a different trail down and camped at High Meadow Spring and back down on the Momyer trail. Previous trips included a day hike on Fish Creek Trail from the campground and another one where we camped up nearer the summit.

Hiked Three Times  Sucess!

Twice from Vivian Creek, once up the Dobbs ridge and once along the trail. The third time was the long loop from South Fork as a dayhike also hit both Charlestons and Jepson.

Vivian Creek  Sucess!

A cold, clear day. Temps on top in the low teens with sub-zero wind chill. I didn't stay long! Dang, forgot the camera. The previous week's storm didn't drop much snow. What little post holing there was was due to wind drifting. No crampons, but give it a few days to warm up and they'll come in handy.

South Fork trail  Sucess!

Went up South Fork Trail this time, brought some freinds and made it a three day event. Got snowed on over the 2nd night/3rd morning, great trip!!

Butt Kicked, but made it!  Sucess!

Only 4 hours of sleep the night before and getting up at 3:00am did not help my exhaustion, but we made it to the summit on an absolutely gorgeous Fall day! Took the South Fork Trail, set up camp at Dry Lake and then made the summit in the afternoon. The hike down required headlamps in the dark, but the night sky was amazing. Temps at camp were below 20 degrees, but a warm meal and a warm bag were appreciated by all. Hiked out on a warm Sunday morning. Only passed five people on the trail all day Saturday, but a dozen or so on Sunday.

Better planned and executed dayhike via Vivian Ck. trail  Sucess!

12 years later, went back much better prepared. Made the summit on a cold, windy November day. Views to N. obscured by clouds. Views to S. were outstanding.

Ill-prepared dayhike attempt via Vivian Ck. Trail

Summer, 1993.

Decided on a whim to attempt San Gorgonio. Took a day pack filled with a bunch of crap that I didn't need. Wore boots that were not meant for hiking. Didn't pack sunscreen. ... etc ... Made it to 1/4mi below summit (where the Dollar Lk. trail joins from the N. side), then decided to take a nap on some rocks near the trail. Woke up completely sunburned and dehydrated. Decided to get down ASAP - my only good decision of the day.

Finally I Stand On Top  Sucess!

Third time's a charm. I went up the Fish Creek trail, which I find to be prettier than Vivian Creek. The old plane wreck looks like big chunks of scrap metal now, but it is still interesting.

With careful driving, I managed to get my '01 Accord all the way to the trail head, despite what the rangers said.

Since then I've done Vivian Creek Trail as part of a nine-peaks trip on 06.17.06

Slog  Sucess!

Vivian Creek. Long slog of a hike. 6hrs up - 3:40 down. First 2 miles out of Vivian Creek are tough - going down as well. On the summit the SB Sheriff's landed their chopper - we were told by a deputy they were looking for two missing hikers. Wild stuff - bit of a meloncholy summit at that point. Smog obstructed the view but you could see Big Bear Lake and San Jacinto.

Worth every step  Sucess!

Exhausting all-day hike. Took the Vivian Creek Route. Wonderful views, happy to be down afterwards... visited my 3-month old niece afterwards.

Vivian Snow  Sucess!

2nd time on this peak, first time in the winter. We camped one night at hi-creek, and woke up early to make the summit. It was really windy, there were little "snow tornados" everywhere, but it was an absolutely breathtaking winter wonderland experience.

Vivian Creek Trail  Sucess!

Glorious day! Views were in excess of 75 miles in all directions. Have never seen Baldy so clear in the summer. Still good water flow at High and Halfway Camps. 5 hours up, about 3h 45m down. Great, rugged (in spots!) trail hike. As far as mileage...have to agree with Gary Suttle's book.

8000 Meter Challenge  Sucess!

The second peak of the 8000 Meter Challenge. It started out very hot but the higher I climbed the cooler it got. I had beautiful views from the top, I could see Mt. Baldy but San Jacinto had clouds arround it. I began hiking to the top at 10:15am and got back to my car at 6:00pm, my feet were very sore by this point but I still had to go climb San Jacinto.
