Vivian Creek Trail
Great hike. Cold and windy on the summit. With the clear day I was able to piece together some really nice panoramic shots.

beautiful mountains
Climbed it a couple times (May 2001 and April 3, 2005). In April, the route still had good snow coverage for cramponing.

Büsserschnee
Climbed with Ryan (TDR) on a clear day via South Fork and up the West Ridge. Nieve Penitentes covered most of the mountain making it difficult to traverse meaning postholing and bushwacking our way back via Mineshaft Flat.

Gorgonzola
Rangers said the South Fork Trail was covered in five feet of snow so we manned up and went up the chute. Going up the snow was packed tight and frozen, on the way down the exact opposite - took forever.

It's one of the local training mountains. Many summits and a couple bails.

Winter solo attempt
Always a blast on this mountain, my favorite day trip! Here is a column I wrote (as a labor of love. No money for hits. Day job is News Director.)

Hiked to the peak from pretty much all the options. South Fork via Dollar Lake, Dry Lake View. Sky High trail. Vivian Creek and even up Momyer. spent a lot of time up there before moving to Colorado. /hiking pictures
especially when there's enough snow to dig a snowcave near the summit!

Vivian Creek
Hiked with (behind) Rick Kent and MikeSash. Summit was sunny but very cold and windy. Nobody spent much time there, including myself. But I was alone on top of S CA for 11 minutes.

Great dayhike with my twin brother...
Great physically demanding dayhike (~15mi.) from Vivian Creek Trailhead, got a late start (oops) and got to wear the headlamps hiking back down for a couple hours. Gorgeous sunset. Got to see a forest fire in the San Bernadino area from the summit.
Came in from Barton Flats 22 miles round trip. I was impressed with the fox tail pines.

via Vivian Creek trail
A long, tough day with snow, but the timing was perfect for this hike as I finished just 2 hours before a storm rolled in. The trail was well packed all the way to the summit and dry on south facing slopes down low. I used snowshoes from just below the south ridge all the way to summit as it was icy. From high camp, whoever broke trail pretty much went straight up to the ridge. Brutal! Awesome views with the icy snow on top. 9 hrs 17 min RT. Look for TR.
