Route Climbed: East Ridge (ascent) / NW Ridge (descent) Date Climbed: Mar 27, 2005  Sucess!

My first time up this peak--didn't hang around for long on the summit because it was darned cold up there. Fun day of snowshoeing out of the tram station around all the HPS peaks Bob and I could find in the area.

Route Climbed: Snow Creek Date Climbed: April 3, 2005  Sucess!

Great snow climb for Southern California! Climbed with David Valdes and Patty. Did it over two days. Saturday 4/2/05 was the approach. At this time, the waterfall is no higher than 12 feet, however, the snow is broken and hollow and cannot approach it directly. I climbed just slightly down and to climber's right of the waterfall through a class 4 chimney/crack system (probably 25 feet high). We set up camp above the 5500' waterfall at 5800 ft. Next day (Sunday, 4/3/05), I started off at 7:00am from camp and topped out at 11:36am. Had perfect snow conditions (quite consolidated). Had the summit to myself and I stayed there 'til 12:05pm at which time I headed down and arrived at the Tramway Station at 2:00pm. Had a big lunch and a Newcastle brown ale at the restaurant up there. Ran into Kurt Wedberg and Sara at the Tramway Station; they also climbed Snow Creek same day as us. Took the Tram down to Palm Springs. All in all, a great climb on a local peak.

Route Climbed: East Slope Date Climbed: March 27 2005  Sucess!

The summit was covered with hard packed snow and the hut was completely buried! Had loads of fun glisading back down the east slope...

Route Climbed: From Tram Date Climbed: August 2004  Sucess!

Summited with my 8 year old son, Joseph and my 6 year old daughter, Emily. It was her first summit EVER. It was Joseph's second - he did Mt. Baldy when he was 6.

Route Climbed: Tram to Round Valley to Summit to Humber Park Date Climbed: May 30, 2004  Sucess!

Incredible skies, warm temperatures and small patches of snow. At the Summit a glider circled overhead for about 20 minutes. The panorama from 10,834 was breathtaking. The hike to Humber Park on the 31st was like walking through a Tolkien tale. There are vast clusters of skunk cabage and loads of little springs coming off the side of the mountain. Only moderate amounts of travelers on the trail. A great hike all the way around.

Route Climbed: Round Valley Date Climbed: Spring 2001  Sucess!

I hiked up from Idyllwild and camped at Round Valley. The hike from Round Valley to the summit was really nice, especially the long traverse through shoulder height shrubs. I loved this hike.

Route Climbed: various Date Climbed: 1990's  Sucess!

Climbed many times during the 1990's usually from Idylwild and usually starting late evening and hiking through the night and topping out near dawn. A fun way to climb this peak as the trail is fairly distinct and easily followed with headlamp. It's also fun to be standing on the top as the sun is coming up!

Route Climbed: Round Valley Date Climbed: February 5, 2005  Sucess!

No wind and mild temps. This was the third time I've been up there in the winter, but the first time I've summited. The views were awesome.

Route Climbed: The Tram and Humber Park via Devils Slide Date Climbed: Once in the 70's again in the 80's  Sucess!

Backpacked in the winter from the tram with a friend. The early days with homemade gaiters, $4.99 sleeping bag, and $9.99 tent. The winds ripped our tent while doing the summit, but we moved it to a more sheltered spot and fortified with branches - it was a blast!

Dayhiked from Humber Park

Route Climbed: From the tram Date Climbed: July 24, 2004  Sucess!

It was a nice and cool day, took a few well paced climbing hours, with a nice clear day to greet us at the top. Absolutely beautiful.

Route Climbed: Cactus to Clouds Date Climbed: November 6, 2004

A great weather day as three of us ascended the Cactus to Clouds trail to the tram station. First time for them; my third. A 3:24:08 ascent; not my best but about 2 miles of snow slowed the pace.

Schlepped our way up from the tram on three-pins in perfectly ghastly snow conditions. Boy, some klister would have been nice! The summit, as seems typical for winter, was caked in rime. It's actually extremely beautiful, if it weren't for the fact that the snow was in more or less the same condition. So, we enjoyed the blue skies, took in the 360-degree view of the SoCal brown haze, and ogled the upper reaches of the Snow Creek route before heading down. A fun outing despite the lousy snow.

Date Climbed: December 2003  Sucess!

We took the tram and then hiked to the top. Lots of snow, so the progress was slower than we expected, but still made it to the top in good time. The trees were covered in ice, it was a winter wonderland. Views were great, kind of weird to stand on a snow-covered peak looking into the desert. Well, this is California after all. We had a blast, the trip added to the great athmosphere of Xmas.

Route Climbed: Round Valley Date Climbed: Oct. 3, 2004  Sucess!

Stayed the night in Round Valley. First time to SJ summit. Left camp with Dave Gloss at 3am for a beautiful clear day and breathing taking sunrise on top. A must in S. CA. Thanks SJ.
