Started a bit before 6, suffered more than I ever had before, thankfully found a ride from the bottom of the tram to Ramon St. with some nice woman. The heat is killer!
First time, very addictive.
A pretty bad storm moved in on the second day. It was a nice trip, from the hot desert below, to a snowstorm on the top. Started at Snow Creek and finished at the tram.
From Tram to Jean and then cross country to San Jacinto.
Climbed with my BSA Venture Crew 51. Camped at Skunk Cabbage Meadows Friday night. Summitted and left on Saturday. LOTS of people at the summit!
Great hike and a real pleasant escape from the god awful heat of Palm Springs.
first time summiting san jacinto. started at 9am. summited at 1:50pm via fuller ridge. pretty hazy all around. would like to try again on a clear day.
Of the local peaks, I've been up Mt San Antonio (Mt Baldy) the most...well over 200 times but have been on more rescue missions on the Mt. San Antonio vicinity. Probably because of the tram or the fact that the PCT goes near by. I've been up via 11 different trails/routes from different sides and has a surprising number of springs/streams for a high local "desert" peak. Even has a cool hut near the summit. Hardest way up for me was up from Windy Point while doing structural geology work on the way up. On one decent down Snow Creek back in the seventies, we incountered rattlesnakes actually three feet up in the bushes we were plowing through...scary!
Hiked it via Deer Springs. Too many people on the summit, still good though...
Nice easy hike from the tram to the summit. Hiked a granny pace and made the summit in three hours. 110+ degrees in the valley, only 68 degrees at the summit.
First Jacinto hike in the summer. Kinda boring with no snow, but still a nice way to spend the day.
Went with Wes again. He had to #2 on the summit, but he was nice enough to keep the turtle at bay until we reached Round Valley's composting toilets. We should all strive to be as strong as Wes.
First time on SJ peak!! Made the summit in 4 hours via Marion Mtn. TH. Not too bad for me considering we did the Tahquitz Rock to Tahquitz peak hike on Saturday.
Awesome weather and an equally awesome trail. Saw a friend (Nick)I have not seen in over 12 years. Very cool to look down Snow creek from the top...impressive.
Great weather and one heck of a view.
Lost my camera up there today ...
we went the marion trail. first foggy once we broke through the clowds just fantastic!! The rocks at the top and near the top where very icy. great view at the top to san gorgonio and san antonio - a great hike!!
Fourth time up; first time traversing over Jean to Marion with challenging snow conditions (see Jean log). Summited in 3 h 20 minutes from Devil's Slide and didn't stay long due to dozens of Boy Scouts on my tails. Had Jean and Marion to myself.
I escaped the heat on this hike after spending Saturday at Coachella. Great area.
I climbed this peak by various routes in various seasons from 1999-2004, including an interesting winter bushwack/scramble via Folly Peak.
Humbar Park to the top. Camped at wellmans divide. Still a good amount of snow from 8500' and above. Hiked it with Lauren. Only ones on the summit.
This was my 4th time on Snow Creek and I still enjoy it tremendously. It has become an annual climb for me. This time it was quite the social climb as I climbed with 10 other SP'ers: Luis, Jason, Kevin, Mike, Rick, Tina, David, Roman, Ryan and Jon. Started at 4:20am. Summited by 3:45pm. Back at the Tram by 6pm. All in all, an awesome day out near Palm Springs! Pics here.
