I did the Backbone trail - Mishe Mokwa trail loop as a trail run. Very hot day. The summit was a bonus.
my 3 year old and i had a great day climbing up sandstone.nice peak for beginner
I remember this hike being quite pleasant in the late evening with the sun setting and the temperate cool breeze. You know things that romance novels are made of....he he
Hot! 99F at the start at Triunfo Pass. Took 3.5hrs to make the loop. Trip Report.
One of six peaks we did that day. Great hike.
I did the Backbone trail - Mishe Mokwa trail loop. Nice day, but couldn't see anything when I was on Sandstone due to fog which later cleared off.
Climbed with my brother-in-law. I found out about the peak while looking through a book about birding in Southern California. Well worth the effort to discover a new area to hike.
Enjoyed hiking to this peak several times.
Definitely don't remember the date, I was probably abot 10 years old (circa 1993). Do remember it being a cool hike and great view.
Went for a trail run with wife and ran into this peak, great views
Hiked to Sandstone Peak, past Boney Peak, past Inspiration Point, out to Tri Peaks, back along the Mishe Mokwe trail past Balanced Rock and Split Rock.
Nice hike. Dionna was whipped.
I took the short route and made the up and down in just over an hour. Nice hike, but yes, it was hot, and humid, too. Surprisingly so. I camped at Leo Carrillo State Beach the previous night, like we used to as a family in the 1970s. My first time actually driving in these hills. Overall an enjoyable dayhike. I was concerned to see neat piles of broken car window glass at the trailhead, but fortunately no one was out today, breaking and entering.
Hiked this with Travis and his daughter - two liters of water was not enough. After summiting, we hit the Hueco Wall and climbed some 5.10a-5.10c's. Great views from both the peak and the climbs.
Hiked to the summit today with my daughter. It was HOT!! Ran out of water, did a loop and took the Mishe Mokwa trail back. Saw a rattlesnake too. Here is the route we took, this is my GPS data saved in kmz format with photos that can be viewed in Google Earth.
Climbed this one a bunch of times in various combinations. My favorite used to be when they had a steep trail from the ranger station(now closed).
It was hot and there were more people than I usually like, but it was a nice view.
Nice views & a great excuse to sneak away from the family during the holidays :)
It was windy at the top. Its good not to have a job sometimes.
