Our icon for dreams
Been up to the summit more than a dozen times and 100 times that in my dreams. This mountain is a great place to train, have fun and reminds us of bigger peaks to come. Here is one story. (No money for hits. Writing is just a labor of love. I'm a News Director.)

Holy Jim to Summit
Mountain bike race on this day. Made the hike interesting to say the least. Nothing like diving in to the brush to avoid getting run over. The radio towers on the summit make for a less than natural climax. Probably won't return.
I went to go visit my brother in Corona, CA, and, of course, one of the most important things in planning to come visit him is to look for a nice little mountain in the area to hike. There are some beautiful views on the hike up, it kinda is a bummer seeing all the satellite equipment up at the top, but I guess people have to have their cell phone access...
Killer hike from bottom to top and back. Especially in May. Ran out of water on the way up. Ran the entire way back

Ascended Holy Jim, Descended Joplin Trail
A nice hike via Holy Jim and Joplin trails. Climbed Modjeska as well. Perfect weather, some snow above 5000 ft. The firebreak cleared during recent fires across Modjeska was a bit of an eye sore, as were all the towers on Santiago.
Here are my GPS tracks, elevation profile, Google Map and some photos.
Note: Had no issues driving my low clearance Honda Civic to the Holy Jim Trailhead. Took it slow and easy. The large puddles are intimidating but easy to bypass. Need to be careful to avoid large rocks.

Holy Jim!
What a slog on a hot day. Enjoyed the wild fresh figs growing over the Falls. From the Great Divide on it got nice. The summit, however, was humming with microwave radiation and we didn't stay long. Signed the log up top. Good views all around.
Been to the top many times, hiking and four-by-ing... nice views on clear days

Amazing views! Can't believe I waited this long to do this one. Also did Modjeska, Bald, and Bedford. I will do this again and again.

I often see this peak on my commute and wish I was climbing it rather then going to work.

Main Divide
The gate at the Silverado trailhead is open so I drove to the top of Maple Springs Road. The road is in good condition and an average compact car can make it. The upper gate is locked.

Holy Jim Trail
Gorgeous day with clear air, so everything was sharply visible. Slight breeze and cool air made for very comfortable hiking.

Holy Jim
Wish there was a better way to get to this mediocre cohp. A 16mi RT seems too much for what you get in return.
I lived in south Orange County under the shadow of Saddleback Mountain most of my childhood and always wondered what it was like way up there. Over the years I've climbed it I think 4 times as a training hike for other summits and I have to say, I don't really care for it. Exposed to the sun most of the way, the dry, hot, dusty trails among dead bushes and few trees, the swarms of flies in the summer, the indistinct summit under the radio towers looking out at the smog and haze - not quite the high-Sierras but a tough training hike from Holly Jim.
This trail is awesome up until the dirt road. Then you could end up fighting over road space with Jeeps and dirtbikes to get to the summit, the greatest display of antennaes I have ever seen.
