Been hiking Sauk Mtn since I was 7 years old, and it's still one of my fave places to hike with friends when we all have a free affternoon. Unparalleled views (for the climb). Well worth the drive and hike.

Late Spring Snow-Hike
Had to park below the snow which added about a mile each way.
A party of about 8 had left ahead of us but turned around at the first steep section of snow.
My friend and I were the only ones to summit that day. Steep going up on the snow. I hadn't brought my ice axe so only had my trekking poles which made it iffy at times. Coming down on softer snow made for difficult footwork and a couple slides.
Worth it. Beautiful day that will forever be seared in my memory for so many reasons.
Got to the lookout in about 30mins, had climbed 5 of the 7 or 8 spires in about an hour+. Shared the top of the main peak with several others - beautiful views

Quick summit
on our way to NCNP for the weekend. Maddie and I hit the trail around 4:30 pm, and got to the summit and back quickly. Long summer days made for a nice late hike/camp setup in Newhalem.

Spring Fling
Yes it's short, but once we were up on the east side, we got some pretty solid alpine action with steep snow and an intriguing scramble along the ridge.
I attempted this one a few years back as a fall snowshoe from way low on the approach road. That didn't work out so well.
Sauk - wonderful hike with views beginning at parking lot. Switchbacks along the open face of the mountain the entire way. Wildflowers abound. :) Have hiked many times, usually take first timers here.

Bang for your buck
I took my little kids up there, and they will always remember it. The views are amazing from the trail head, but they get better from the top. Love this hike.
Went up with a photographer friend who wanted some shots of Baker. The trip up felt even shorter the second time; I don't know how much shorter it can actually feel, as it goes by super quick. Once again, bagged the true summit. Took a video of me jogging back from the true summit to the false summit; it's pretty awesome. Saw lots of Marmots.
After an early morning trip to Dock Butte, my daughter and I went to Sauk Mountain. I wore her toddler backpack the entire way to the summit ridge, before I did the final scramble to the true summit. I quickly returned back to the main trail, and then my daughter and I had a great lunch together in a small depression next to some snowbanks. Several marmots were running around and shrieking. Great weather, great route, great views... but bad blisters (due to worn-out socks).

Worth the effortI've made this hike a number of times, and its always worth the effort. Excellent views the whole way up, and even better at the top.
