I summitted all of the Sawatch 14ers with my wife this summer. The first were Shavano and Tabeguache on May 26 and the final were Harvard and Columbia on September 19.
just spent nearly a week camping here, with bonus successful ascent of elbert. what a magical place.
Most of the Collegiates , Elbert and Massive too. These were the first big mountains I hiked outside of the Pike's Peak area, and still some memorable views and times.
22/27 in winter, some interesting ones remain
Backpacking through this range is awesome ! Can't beat the view from Elbert and Massive.
and hopefully many more to come now that the kid has discovered hiking.
did many hikes in the area - started with 14ers (now done), so moved onto 13ers... Still prefer my favorite - San Juans.
hike Elbert, plan to be back for many more hikes and backpacking trips.
Have spent many weekends here. Nice to backpack into and hike a few peaks. Elkhead Basin in the Fall is one of my favorites.
Took a motorcycle trip visiting 5 Colorado ranges and climbing 7 peaks. I'll be back for more some day.
Been up more mountains in the Sawatch than I care to admit. Big, bulky and easy range. Easy access too. Nothing particular amazing about the range but Ice Mountain (Three Apostles) is/are amazing. Holy Cross is sweet too.
Huge elevation gains for these peaks.
and i have already booked my return flight which departs in two weeks.
Sawatch Range was nice introduction to Colorado mountains for me, after finishing all 14ers in range goal is to do some 13ers, looking forward for this summer and fall.
I love this range so much! My first climbs have been here.
Did some exploring/climbing/scrambling up here and camped on a 5'x5' flat area on the side of a mountain. Made for an uncomfortable and mostly sleepless night but we had amazing views of an intense meteor shower that just happened to occur while we were there.
