Disparity?

The Matterhorn seems so craggy while the mountain in the background (with the streak of snow) seems to be a pleasant boulder field, Colorado-type mountain. Why is that?

That's very observant. The Sawtooth Ridge in northern Yosemite (and Tower Peak) marks the northern end of the dramatic high granitoid peaks in the Sierra. The peaks farther to the north are generally lower, less dramatic and/or volcanic, such as the brownish colored peak that you mentioned.
