Seattle to Bellingham Bike Route

Seattle to Bellingham Bike Route

The first time I rode a bike to Bellingham was in 2002.  We only had a paper map and were not sure the best route to take so we just headed north. It was a more direct route and clocked in at 100 miles.

In the summer of 2018 we opted for a more scenic route and stayed close to the water as much as possible which resulted in a total distance of 113 miles. Although we tried to hug the coast most of the day, there are about three sections of hills along the way to Bellingham which resulted in a total elevation gain of 4200 feet. I definitely worked up an appetite during the ride, by the end I had burned 4000+ calories.

We left Seattle at 7am and arrived in Bellingham a little before 6pm.  We had just enough time to spare for dinner before catching the 7:44pm Amtrak Cascades train back to Seattle.  I was back home by 11pm and was able to watch the day’s Tour de France highlights before going to bed.
