September Snow!

September Snow!

September snows over Mount Timpanogos, Utah. It usually doesn't snow quite this early, so I was ecstatic to observe the beauty of the snow gathering over the fall colors in the mountains. September 16, 2006. Another photo

Thanks Dow. I also appreciate your willingness to assist my planning for the Bugaboos. I'm just now gathering my buddies to solidify the trip, so I'll probably have some questions in a few months. Thanks again.

Great shot of TIMP...

New to SP - was just wondering if you know anything about the HUT on the summit of Timpanogas. Like... who owns it, and what purpose does it serve??? Yes, love the Fall colors, aren't they amazing? KEEP THINKING SNOW!

Re: Great shot of TIMP...

There is a book that describes those details, here's the link:

I believe the summit hut was constructed in the 1930's or so. They hauled each piece up there by donkey. I think it was simply a mountain shelter, like those that are common in Europe. Of course the harsh weather blew the windows out, so instead a secondary hut was constructed near Emerald Lake. That hut is now used for shelter from wicked weather.

Again, all my info is just mountain gossip, the book has the goods.
