Seward Mountain

From the large notch on the loose wall northeast of Ptarmigan Tunnel, Seward Mountain (8,917 ft.) comes into view. From this spot, the route traverses northward, on the west side of the wall. Several false notches are passed, all of which are clearly impassable from above. After reaching the northernmost notch, the goat trail that Gordon Edwards states "will surprise and delight even the most jaded mountaineer" is safely accessed. A class II route up the greyish southwest ridge of Seward Mountain is clearly visible in the center of the photograph. July 30, 2009
