Day trip
Forecast was for a cloudy day in the low fifties with no rain. At the top it started sleeting on me and then the rain came pouring down, for the entire trip back to the car. Four hours up, three hours and forty eight minutes down, for a solid eight hours door to door. The slide area isn't as bad as it could be because the rock is of good quality for scrambling.

7 1/2 hours round trip from Cory's Trailhead. That was my goal when I wanted to hike this one last week, but had to postpone until today. Made it! The trail was easy to follow, in really good shape and mostly not too muddy. Ward Brook lean-to has a sign on top and the cairn just past was easy to spot also. Pretty straight forward hike...dang false summit though! Hahaha. I missed the side trail off to the right just before the summit, but saw it when leaving and got some great pictures. The small clear area looking to the south is very picturesque also. Great day with the fall colors, clear skies, perfect weather! Couldn't ask for a better day to be out in the mountains.

Perfect fall day!
#39/46 with friend Jim. Perfect day, blue skies, cool, dry weather, trails much less soggy than our last trip to the Sewards. Started at 0735, returned to parking lot at 1605. Enjoyed helping Cynthia and Tom celebrate on the summit. This was her 46 completion!
Covered in mud from the bottom of my boots to the top of my thigh.

Seymour Mtn.
Summited Seymour Mountain 4120' during an overnight at the Blueberry Lean-To. We backpacked in, set up camp at the lean-to, then procedeed towards the cairn after passing the Ward Brook Lean-To. The climb was moderate with a lot of mud, making for some slow going at first, but we picked up our pace after getting past the slides. The ridge was nice and the weather perfect, which made for a nice day climb. We headed back down and stayed the night at the lean-to.

Long but pleasant hike in from Corey's RD TH past the Lean-To's. Generally flat until the herdpath, then some serious elevation gain. Great views from ledge near summit!

slippery when wet
Camped the night before at a lean-to off the Ward Brook trail to get an early start. It was muddy and wet most of the way up, with a lot of blow down and erosion resulting from the willy-nilly climbing patterns of people using the herd path, especially in portions where it was steep and rocky. The clouds cleared and there were nice views from the top.

Herdpath
Followed up Seward, Donaldson, & Emmons with this trip the next day. Exhausting! Tried and failed this peak several weeks before, but finally succeeded! Broken trail with about 4 inches of new powder made for decent travel and excellent butt sliding on the way down. Glad to finally have made the summit! 40/46

Seymour Mountain
Climbed via the Duck Hole Trail from Route 3. The herd path was more like a bushwack in some places due to all the blowdown aroud the upper portion of the climb. The views the Seward Range and Ampersand from the open ledge below the wooded summit made up for it.

Why Come Here?
Either to stare at spruce and fir trees all day or to accompany your dad finishing the 46, of course! There is a nice slide climb too.

My son Marks first high peak at age 7. It was more of an experiment. Nice easy hike out, lets see how he does. He ran up the mountain!!! Caught in T-storm on the way down.
