Sharing a beautiful sunset with the summit of Box Elder Peak

Sharing a sunset with the summit of Box Elder Peak and Mount Timpanogos. On the summit it was cold, windy, beautiful and for some reason I felt right at home up there. It was one of those sunsets that could take your breath away. November 7th,2009

Re: Very cool.

Thanks for the kind words Wasatchvoyage. It was yet another fine sunset in the Wasatch. I think most people tend to miss out on beautiful sunsets like these because of thier fear of the dark. Hope your future sunsets are more beautiful than mine.

Re: You can feel....

I agree. Watching a beautiful sunset above 11,000 feet is something every climber must do at least once in their mountaineering career. Thanks for stopping by RDMC.

Do you have your breath back yet?

Another thing to point out is presence of the
"terraces" and Utah Lake in the picture.

This is truly a nice setting. So, did you
actually spend the night up there, or did you
have to hike back down in the dark?

Re: Do you have your breath back yet?

Great point Larry and ya I do have my breath back (no CPR neccary). We hiked back down the dark and lonely Dry Creek Canyon. It was really nice to climb back down in the dark without the horses or people. Got down in the parking lot just in time to watch the moonrise right over the peak. Looks like we will have to go back the next time there is a full moon for sure. Hopefully there will be enough snow so that we can ski it! Happy Trails out there.

Officially

one of my favorite SP photos. I love Box Elder, and I love this photo. Great job capturing a moment most people never see in real life!

Re: Officially

I am glad you like it JDrake. In my opinion I believe most people never catch sunsets like this because of their fear of the dark. Who knew that overcomming your fears could turn out so beautiful. Happy Trails out there.

Re: Officially

Agreed. Some of my best moments (where I feel the most alive) have been decending in the dark.

Re: Gorgeous...

Thanks again Missymtngirl. It was so much more beautiful in person. Still I am glad I am able to share it with everyone else. Cant believe that sunsets like this one go un-seen all the time. May your sunsets be beautiful too -TyeDyeTwins-
