Hiking through the snow above about 5000 ft was tough, but the air was clean and the views incredible

Christmas Fun  Sucess!

Left from Sheep Camp with the dogs at 3:00 pm, summited at 4:45 and was back on the road to head to Christmas dinner before 6:00. Snow started about 2/3 of the way up, but luckily was solid enough that I did very little post-holing. Excellent views of the Trinity Alps, Mt. Shasta, Castle Crags, Lassen, Whiskeytown Lake, Shasta Lake, Redding, and Anderson. I could see beyond the Sutter Buttes to the Sierra near Tahoe and beyond.

Main road (Sheep camp)  Sucess!

winter, death march  Sucess!

unsure of the year, but it was the winter that redding got a foot of snow in the valley! my buddy and I decided to climb, regardless. didn't take skis or snowshoes because we we did last time and never needed them. big mistake!!!! we ended up post-holing the entire way, sometimes up to our thighs. we were trashed by the time we got to the summit, set up camp and met the radio tower dude who was staying up there. he gave us a tour and some hot drinks. that night we enjoyed the stunning view of every city light from central valley to chico! next day we had to do the death march out, but at least it was down hill.

Route Climbed: main road up to broadcast towers Date Climbed: July 9, 2005  Sucess!

The hike was great all the way up; however, there were a lot of trucks going up and coming down which made for quite a bit of dust. The view is absolutely breathtaking the last 1.5 miles of the trek…you can see all the way to Shasta Lake and beyond! My sister and I thoroughly enjoyed the hike (even the steep parts) and would applaud any individual who can bike up this trail!
