Basically not fun  Sucess!

Not great, not terrible the giant rock tower was cool and worth the small extra effort.

nice views  Sucess!

with Wasatch Mountain Club group; most of hike up on Great Western Trail in Shingle Mill Canyon, accessed from equestrian trailhead just short of the Trefoil Ranch at end of Vivian Park road. Parts of the trail are steep and highly eroded, unpleasant to hike on. Switchbacks could improve it.

Up from Big Springs  Sucess!

Planned on tagging Cascade but didn't have the energy. Missed the trail to Shingle Mill, shwhacked up to the saddle between Freedom and Shingle Mill, found a trail and some cairns up Shingle Mill, took the north ridge down to the Shingle Mill Trail - liked that route better than the cairns. Rough  Sucess!

Started from the Rock Canyon parking lot and made it up many hours later. Followed the ridge to Freedom Peak right after

Fun in the Wasatch  Sucess!

Grabbed this easy summit on the way back from Freedom Peak via Freedom's North Ridge. :)

Shingle Mill  Sucess!

As part of a traverse from Shingle Mill Peak to Provo Peak, with Ben Stokes. Started up Dry Fork to Shingle Mill, traverse to Provo, with a descent down the North Ridge of Provo into Burnt Hollow and bushwhack down to the Squaw Peak road eventually getting back down to my truck at the Dry Fork TH. Pretty awesome day. The bushwhack down Burnt Hollow was pretty brutal.

Freedom Traverse  Sucess!

From Provo and East Provo to Freedom and then Shingle Mill. Great ridge run!

Bonus peak!  Sucess!

I almost feel bad for summits that are tacked on to the tail end of other adventures just because they're less imposing than the main attraction and are geographically convenient. That said, I'm happy that it was just a few extra steps to bag her after Freedom Peak. May you one day stand on your own and shine in the spotlight, Shingle Mill. Remember: you is kind, you is smart, you is important.

Might as Well  Sucess!

After being a "true patriot" we came over from Freedom Peak to do this one. It took maybe 20 minutes to slog to the top from the south saddle.

Came up the Dry Fork Trail, and it was very green and delightful.

Up I Go

03/10/12- Started at Rock Canyon TH 3:00 am. 6 hours exactly to the top and 13 miles RT with 5,300 vert. Climbed to my dog Nebo and some friends.
04/05/13 Another summit with the intention of making a early spring traverse of the Provo Ridge. Snow was very unconsolidated on the ridge between Shingle Mill and Freedom peak. We turned around 1/4 the way up Freedom

Nice hike  Sucess!

Went with a couple family members via the Dry Fork Trail, which we had almost completely to ourselves. Didn't run into anyone on the summit either, but we did see quite a few mountain goats. Loved the solitude and was totally blown away by the scenery in the cirques up there.

Long day  Sucess!

Long day from the Rock Canyon TH. 5580' up, 11.5 miles RT, 9 hrs 43 min RT. Beautiful weather and views. Things were going good until we decided to cut the giant switchback. There was too much brush exposed to make this worthwhile. It took forever to get to the ridge, but from there on it was ok.

The "north" ridge route  Sucess!

With ZeeJay from Rock Canyon TH, trail 060 and straight up a steep ridge to 9984' on the ridge north of the peak. Low snow levels and tenacious gnarly pine growth on the ridge made for, shall we say, an interesting summit ridge approach. On the summit we took in the entire collection of small summit bumps.

Last of season

Hiked solo via Dry Fork. I realized it was deer hunting season but didn't get shot by a drunk hunter. Probably the last summit of this peak this year without snowshoes/crampon/ice axe. I love the view from this peak. I also love the fact that I don't need to pay anyone.

Snowshoe trip  Sucess!

12-mile round-trip snowshoe trip from the mouth of Rock Canyon to the summit. Above Rock Canyon Campground we had to follow a large avalanche that covered the Squaw Peak Road. The snow was deep in Dry Fork, and the summit ridge was very windy and corniced. But it was a beautiful day for a climb and made a great view.

New Bag  Sucess!

Hit Freedom first. Made it to top of Freedom in 2 and a half hours. Then it took an hour to summit Shingle Mill. Nice little peak with great cirques on the north side. Some fantastic views from the top. Next person to hike Shingle Mill, please take another bag to put the papers for the registry in.

A Wee Bit Chilly...  Sucess!

Very fun and easy hike. It took a little under three hours to reach the summit from the Dry Fork TH. We saw about a dozen deer. It was very windy and overcast at the summit. Temperature at the summit was only 42 degrees. Kinda chilly! Wanted to tackle Freedom Peak first, but the weather looked like rain could come at any minute, so we did Shingle Mill and then headed down. Signed the registry found in the summit cairn.
