Shoal Peak

Some menacing skies provide a dramatic backdrop for this huge peak directly north of Deer Ridge. The 11,095' peak is not officially named but has a commanding presence. It appears to be most easily climbed from the west (the left side seen here), but the north side has a series of limestone cliffs that look technical and might intrigue and challenge climbers willing to undertake the steep, rugged approach.

This view is from Deer Ridge.

Great Shot

This peak looks awesome! Do you have plans to climb it one of these days?

Re: Great Shot

I'd love to get back there to climb this one and some others in the area. This year wasn't my first time in the Gros Ventres, but it was the first time I got up on the high peaks, and it was amazing, almost as good as the Absarokas! You'll see when I post my Corner Peak page within the next week.

Re: Great Shot

Count me in if you go - this mountain looks totally sick!

The mountain itself

has a dream-like quality to it. Almost like it
came out of a Clint Eastwood movie.

The shadows are both foreboding and beautiful.
I give this one a 10.

Re: The mountain itself

If you hadn't, I would have started a thread complaining about you!

I always was told "the squeaking wheel gets
the most oil."

If nobody squeaks, then nothing gets done!

Re: totally ...

Or, more like "The Red Headed Stranger."

(Oh yeah, that was Willie Nelson.)

Re: totally agree

Well, the movie was set in Wyoming...

(But I think it was shot in Canada.)
