Overview

Sentiero delle Palete around...Sentiero delle Palete around Val Gelada di Tuenno

The Sentiero Alpinistico delle Palete is a very long (approx. 20km) trail that qualifies as ferrata because of the climbing patches around Passo delle Palete. These make up only a minor part of the whole trail - the rest is pure hiking fun on the eastern side of Pietra Grande. It can be combined with Sentiero Costanzi to form a two day round trip between Rifugio Graffer al Grostè and Rifugio Peller:

- 1st day: Sentiero Claudio Costanzi from Rifugio Graffer to Rifugio Peller
- 2nd day: Return via Sentiero delle Palete to Passo Grostè

The northern Brenta chain is rather lonely. Around Passo Grostè you'll meet a lot of peple but to the north of Val delle Giare you'll have the trail to yourself.

1st Stage: Passo Grostè - Passo delle Palete

From the cablecar station on Passo Grostè head northwards along trail 306 over Pra Castron di Flavona. The trail keeps roughly the same altitude and is rather easy until you reach Val delle Giare (below Bocchetta dei Tre Sassi). Here the trail gets much narrower and harder to find as it winds west of the Palete west face towards Passo delle Palete. This is the only climbing patch of the whole ferrata and is secured by cables and spikes.

2nd Stage: Passo delle Palete - Rifugio Peller

After the pass descend steeply (still secured) into the deep valley of Val Gelada di Tuenno. Now the sentiero follows the flanks of the northern Brenta chain ascending and descending as the terrain allows. It reaches Val MAdris, from where it circles eastwards around Cima Uomo (again some easy climbing). Again heading northwards it reaches Passo de la Nana, where it meets Sentiero Costanzi (336) which it follows for the rest of the way towards Rifugio Peller. You cross Passo della Forcola and Biv. Pinamonti before reaching Monte Peller and the Rifugio of the same name.

Essential Gear

I would recommend a ferrata set: harness, short ropes and biners. Much of the trail is not secured by cables so you really need experience. Bring your own food and don't forget the water. And because of rockfall you better bring a helmet as well.

Parents refers to a larger category under which an object falls. For example, theAconcagua mountain page has the 'Aconcagua Group' and the 'Seven Summits' asparents and is a parent itself to many routes, photos, and Trip Reports.
