Nice hike, Nice Views  Sucess!

This is a beautiful lookout and good hiking summit. Ran into maintenance crew repairing the roof on Shriners Peak. It is great that they have campsites on top.

Snow: Yes. Views: No.  Sucess!

We did not reach consistent snowpack until nearly reaching the southwest ridgetop. From there, it was a straightforward ridgetop snow-walk... but no snowshoes were needed despite recent snow storms dumping loose upper layers. Nice lookout tower!

Route Climbed: Shriner Peak Trail  Sucess!

Did this one to get my legs in shape since it's been a late start to the season in '11. Tried to make it up in under 90 mins, but it took 95. So close ;) The views were pretty good, but other than the great view of Rainier, I was a little disappointed by the 360 panorama. Anyway, great hike good for a bit of exercise and a nice view of Rainier.

Shriner Peak trail  Sucess!

A beautiful hike with amazing views of Rainier starting around the 4500 foot level. It was a bit cool at the TH, probably low 40's but due to a temp inversion it was around 60 at the summit. Just a bit of snow on the shaded parts of the trail and at the summit, maybe 6-10 inches on average. Up in 2.5 hours due to many stops for photos, back down in 1:15. Highly recommended, make sure to go when you have views!

Route Climbed: Shriner Peak Trail Date Climbed: October 20th 2005  Sucess!

I had a pleasant Autumn trip up to this lookout. The trail was in excellent shape with no blowdowns and no snow for now. Unfortunately conditions were cloudy with a sprinkling of rain and there were relatively few views to be had on this day. I was pleasantly surprised at the large % of the trail which would feature distant views on a clear day; it was much less forested than I would have imagined beforehand and from about 4000 feet on up you are out in the open. The lookout structure appeared to be in fairly good shape although it was locked up for the winter.

If I revisit this peak to catch the views I missed out on then I may take an alternate route. It appears as though one could start farther North on Hwy 123 at the road bend near Deer Creek. From the topo it appears as if the slopes are fairly moderate if you go up Deer Creek for a few minutes and then head pretty much due South near the unnamed stream [probably along the East side of the stream] heading towards Point 5282. Then from there head clockwise up the summit ridge. While there is no formal trail here, I have heard mention of an abandoned trail on the North side of Shriner Peak although I have no idea if it is in this location. Additionally this starting point is about 1100 feet higher in elevation than the standard "trailhead". Plus you could likely top out on Point 5282 or thereabouts which would also give you a look down to Shriner Lake which I did not see on this visit.

My son and I did this one on a beautiful August day and were lucky enough to have a maintainance crew working on the lookout so we were treated to a tour and given the opportunity to pretend we were lookouts. What a killer view of Mt. Rainier.

We met a fellow from Germany who had done High Rock earlier in the day and he felt that both were tremendous viewpoints.
