Ice fall
On a relatively warm day after a minor snowfall, the ice encrusted on the pine trees was crashing all around us. I was happy not to get hit in the noggin. An impressive peak for the northern sierra.

4x4 fun n da sun
Took the 4x4 trail off of Butte Rd. out of Sierra City. Started hiking at the closed gate ~1 mi. from the tower. Views were very nice, and the summit was not overcrowded, although it was only a Friday morning.

Sunset
Went up for the sunset, on the way back down, we ran into a couple camped along the trail. They were PCTers heading north and it turns out that we had talked to them at Bubbs Creek in SEKI weeks before when we were doing the JMT. It was pretty amazing the way we ran into them again!
Saw it from the road but didn't know what it was. It looked interesting so I took a stroll. Hiking the 4WD road was a drag but the views were great from up top. No signs of civilization looking outward which was nice.
Left the family reunion behind in Graeagle at 4p.m. and was back and showered for baby back ribs and beer before 8p.m. A winding drive followed by and easy jog/hike to the top for a great panoramic view form the lookout tower on the top. I had fun skiing around on my trail shoes through the late season snow on the way down. I saw some nice dogs here and at the Lakes Basin trail and will bring mine next time for some fun in the snow and the beautiful lakes. Lots if great mountain biking around here too.
Route Climbed: Trail from Packer Lake Date Climbed: 31 July 2004
This was a nice hour and half hike to the summit. The views where amazing. Tried to get my dog to go up the stairs but she freaked out. The stairs are steep.
Route Climbed: Trail/summit rocks Date Climbed: July 18, 2004
Ran the trail from Packer Lake, avoided the stairs and took the rocks up to the look out. For some reason I thought the structure was going to fall off at any moment.
Route Climbed: South Slope Date Climbed: July 1997
A day hike up a fire trail on the South slope. A variation on the descent lead to some bushwacking, a slide down a rocky gully and an encounter with a homeowners Rottwieller(sp?). I emerged out of the brush on highway 49 near downtown Downieville and had a 2-3 mile hike back to my car. All was cool though.
Route Climbed: HIked the access road from the west Date Climbed: April 1991
HIked with Christine Beck and Steve Soich up the access road as the snow was still quite deep, and the road wasn't open. The snow near the top was in excess of 4 feet deep. We saw no tourists up there, and that lookout is perched in a precarious position. The best views in the vicinity.
