How fortunate humanity is to inhabit a planet where there's a place, a region, like the Sierra Nevada. Home to 3 National Parks, 2 National Monuments, and 20 Wilderness Areas. As for myself, I was fortunate to have grown up in a place that was within a 3-hour drive of places like Lake Tahoe and Yosemite. My heart was taken immediately. Taken as were the hearts of many legendary mountaineers including John Muir. And so, for the rest of my life, I'll be able to look up at the Sierras numerous peaks, knowing that I've stood at the top of many, and continue to be lured by the desire to do so on so many more.
Like a moth attracted to a porch light, the Sierra Nevada Range pulls me back and back again. As John Muir stated, "The mountains are calling and I must go."
The mountaineers route in one day up Mount Whitney is still one of the best days I have ever had. I look forward to getting back to this jagged and majestic range to tackle other peaks in the future.
Grew up in Bishop, have also lived and worked on the west side National Parks and Forests - this is home to me. I've climbed many peaks and hiked hundreds of miles in the Sierra :)
Had a month to mess around in the Northeastern Sierra Nevada mountains. Between the rock walls and the excellent caves everywhere, it was certainly an awesome time. Just do it in the summer...not in January.

My Second Home
I have climbed more than a hundred different peaks in California, mostly in the Sierra Nevada. My first was Mount Whitney, on 19 June 1999. I have been coming back every summer since then.
