Sierra primrose

...mouse click to enlarge... I exposed this 6x7 Provia 100F transparency on July 29, 2003 in Ansel Adams Wilderness. Sierra primrose, primula suffrutescens, are the highly saturated magenta wildflowers. Primrose are perennials found along the crest of the Sierra Nevada at high areas. The yellow flowers in the image are alpine buckwheat, erigonum ovilofolium with silvery gray wooly basal leaves. Mountain hemlock, tsuga mertensiana, trees are this image's main subject with The Minarets in the background including Clyde Minaret at left. Just below the base of hemlock are several patches of lighter magenta red mountain heather, phyllodoce breweri.
