Solo day trip  Sucess!

Nearly threw out my shoulder after slipping and catching a trekking pole. The peak was fun and easy, but crampons are recommendable for about 45 minutes of the hike.

Beautiful route  Sucess!

Climbed with Rocío from Puerto de Navacerrada (road mountain pass), but approached over the 'Camino Schmid' till Collado Ventoso and further over the 'Senda de los Alevines' and up to the pass betweeen Pico de Majalasna and the western peak. Then, we walked over the ridge, climbed the highest peak and walked back over the ridge to the 'Alto del Telégrafo' and back to Navacerrada.

Bad day

It was a day with terrible weather conditions with very strong wind and rain from Puerto de Navacerrada. Walking in the snow we reached with many difficulties the bottom of the 7th peak but the rock had a lot of ice and we don't climbed the summit. I hope more luck in the next time.

Route Climbed: From Loma La Machorra by Los Cogorros descending on Camino Schmidt Date Climbed: 23 October 2004

I drove with Nadie to Km 135 of the road M-601 where we parked (1.650 m), just before the last curve to the left until "Las Siete Revueltas". We started ascending the wooded hill at 2:10 PM, took a forest trail first, traversed a meadow and took a trail made by a bulldozer. Soon we left the rocks that form the P 1.871 m to the right, while we made some landmarks with stones and branches in order not to be get lost in the dark when descending. Then we past a house with an antenna on his roof, wich is on the P 1.895 m. Left the P 1.892, occupied by a weather station, to the left and reached the building of the Observatorio Meteorológico de Navacerrada (1.888 m). We also past Residencia del Ejército del Aire and traversed a parking. Ascended a ski track called "El Escaparate" and took the trail PR 8. Left the Alto del Telégrafo and the sculpture of Nuestra Señora de las Nieves to the left, traversed a flat area and stopped (3:30 PM) for having lunch sheltering behind some big rocks just before the Col 1.935 m. The wind blowed moderately from the W and some clouds grazed the 7th Peak summit, the temperature had lowed some grades. After 30 minutes we re-started ascending the slope of the 7th Peak, reached its base, left our backsacks next to it and climbed the final 25 m to the top (2.138 m - 4:40 PM). The rocks were a little bit wet and we had to be cautious in order not to slide down. Then we descended to take our backpacks. Nadie had forgot her boots and wore trainers that day, so I had to help her in some slippery pitches.

We followed the trail that joins all Siete Picos summits, ascending 6th and 4th, 3rd and 2nd Peaks. The 6th Peak, wich is the rocky prominence to the left once past the 7th, is very easy to climb. The 5th has a sharp rock on the top wich is difficult to climb without rock climbing gear so we only reached the base of that rock. The 4th was has some big and rounded rocks near the top that require some agility to be climbed, nothing important anyway. On the base of the 3rd Peak is located La Ventana del Diablo, where we did another break for resting and eating something (6:10 PM). Then we climbed prominence to the left that forms the 2nd Peak, wich is easiest of Siete Picos in my opinion. Descended to Collado Ventoso (1.892 m) and took Camino Schmidt descending first and then flat and ascending to the parking near Residencia del Ejército del Aire. Then followed the forest trail along Los Cogorros as in the ascent but got lost a little when we descended too much in the pinewood. It was dark and we wore our headlamps, we were finding the landmarks that we had made in the ascent but should past one of them. I noticed it because of my altimeter and turned to the right traversing a big area covered with by brushwood. Finally we reached the road at 1.625 m and ascended to my car (8:50 PM). Though it was saturday and we had seen many people on the trail, we enjoyed a nice autumn day in a beautiful pinewood wich is Pinar de Valsaín, climbing all those crags. The temperature didn't low too much below 10ºC and didn't rain although those threatening clouds that covered sometimes the high mountains of Sierra de Guadarrama.

Route Climbed: Camino Schmid (PR 5) Date Climbed: 15 August 2003  Sucess!

My elder brother, sister-in-law, nadie and me left Puerto de Navacerrada at 1:00 PM after having a snack at Venta Arias. We followed the road to Los Cogorros, where we took Camino Schmid (PR 5). At 1:40 PM we did a stop (1 h 20 min) on Pradera de Navalusilla for having lunch. Then we restart to reach Collado Ventoso (3:40 PM) where did another break (20 min), nadie and me followed to Siete Picos and my brother and his wife turned back on the same trail. It was hot (max 25 ºC) but we pushed forward to the 2nd Peak. We didn't ascended it and neither the 3rd to 6th peaks but we climbed the 7th and highest after taking our backpacks off (4:50 PM). We finally descended to Puerto de Navacerrada in order to meet my brother and sister-in-law (6:00 PM).

Route Climbed: From Puerto de Navacerrada, return along Senda Herreros Date Climbed: 16 July 2003  Sucess!

Though it's not in weekend, I was on Sierra de Guadarrama again on Wednesday. I drove with a friend from Madrid to Puerto de Navacerrada so at 2:15 PM we started hiking across the ski tracks. We climbed the 7th Peak, rested having lunch and restart climbing the 6th, 5th, 4th, 3rd (unless the summit rock) and 2nd Peaks. Then we did another break until descending to the 1st Peak, wich we climbed too. Then we were looking for a water source but couldn't find because it should be dry. So we descended to Carretera de la República, turned left and took PR 8 and Senda Herreros back to Cerro del Telégrafo, wich we ascended until twilight. The final section was on the Telégrafo ski track again. At 10:30 PM we were at the parking drinking some hot cofee and tea. The temperature has lowed to 8 ºC after those warm central hours of the day, when my thermometer had showed 25 ºC.

Altough my right (or left) knee was wrecked at that time, I couldn't stand hiking a bit , when crossed the Puerto de Navacerrada by car. So I only walked up to a small peak with a Maria statue on the top and enjoyed the view.

Route Climbed: From Puerto de Navacerrada Date Climbed: July 23, 2002

As many summits I've climbed, I don't remember when I climbed these peaks firstly. But it could be in the early Eighties when I was a child. Nevertheless, I remind some winter climbs there, so I may have climbed on Siete Picos at least 7 times. I haven't climbed the highest peak (7th) all the times I've been there, neither I have climbed all the seven peaks because the 3rd and another one, IMO, have to be climbed with rope. The last time I was there was in July 23, 2002; I started on Puerto de Navacerrada and climbed all the peaks besides 3rd and 1st (it's separated from the others and is lower). Then I descended to Collado Ventoso and climbed Cerro Ventoso (1.965 m / 6,446 ft), where I took a photo. The descent was as the ascent but I didn't climbed the peaks done before. I arrived to my car nightly so I wore my headlamp.
