Silver Fox Pass talus descent

Silver Fox Pass talus descent

Got to love granite talus if you climb Sierra Peaks! On the north side of Silver Fox Pass at about 10,500 feet carefully monkeying down steep medium sized talus carrying 66 pounds, one sure Vibram boot step at a time, about 7:30am on July 23, 2012. We had been tented at the upper large Graveyard Lake with the previous day a major thunderstorm event with considerable lightning, thunder, and hail. At dawn thunderstorms were already about for round #2 so two of us packed up then went over this cross country pass on the Silver Divide then down to lower forest elevations at Olive Lake. That is an Ursack on the top of the Aether 70 pack with my old marmot chewed cork handle Fenwick rod in a case, blue Nalgene, and Neoair pad on the side. This thin 140 pound old guy who is in his sixth decade has now been backpacking and hiking in the Sierra for over 4 decades including 180 backpacking trips and has 24 pounds of camera gear in the pack including a Wisner 4x5 with 3 lenses. Brother Joe caught me here in the act with his Canon digital. For more information go to Day 3 on this 9-day feature trip story: http://www.davidsenesac.com/MinnowCr/minnowcr_0.html
