With a southern approach, the hike to the summit is fairly easy. Only a snowfield half way presented any extra effort. Kick steps up this snowfield and for the most part glacade back down it.
Anyone of limited ability can reach the summit of Sky Pilot Mtn. I would recommend it to everyone. Great views in all directions. Dont forget to check out Sky Pilot Lake located just north of the high pass between the Lake Fork valley and points to the south.
If you're headed for the Castle Group, then climbing from Crystal Lake makes sense. If you're just doing a one and done, then go no further than Wright Lake. Traverse south shore then head uphill aiming right between Maryott and Donelson lakes. From there, it's some of the mellowest slopes to a Beartooth summit you'll find.
