Field Trip  Sucess!

I took a dog from the Kauai Humane Society out for a field trip and we hiked to the summit. Beautiful day and great fun for both me and Archie the Wonder Whippet!

Great views  Sucess!

Climbed with my wife at the end of a week in Kauai. Lucked out and had no rain. Definitely go past the "end" of the trail and check out the true summit and the other airy summit. Quick, fun scramble to those two points.

Sleeping Giant  Sucess!

This was the first hike I did when I arrived in Kauai. The view from the top gives you a good overview of the east part of the island. Go all the way to the top for a great 360 view!

Up I Go

08/06/11- Took this peak out at sunrise. I recommend it for watching the sunrise over Kauai. Took 33 minutes to get to the Top and 17 mins to get down.

Nice dayhike  Sucess!

Took advantage and did a muddy hike during a break in the weather during a rainy week in Kauai.

Aloha view  Sucess!

Mt wife and I hiked up the standard trail on a beautiful day in May 2006 when visiting Kauai with my parents. It is a fun section to get to the real summit, almost a scramble. The views are spectacular with so much ocean to see. The only island peak I have ever done, what a treat.

Made the best of a bad weather day in paradise  Sucess!

Remnants of Hurricane Felicia blowing through Kaua'i today brought a lot of clouds and showers, so we were looking for a short hike to squeeze in. This was it. Very humid day and muddy trail, but lots of good views down over the Waimea River and beach and our hotel in Kapa'a. We're having a great time here. Did the helicopter tour circling the island on Monday: awesome experience!

It was there,  Sucess!

I was there. Might as well go up it. Favorite part was dining on the strawberry guava along the way. mmmmmmmmmmmmm...

Go early  Sucess!

This is one hot and humid mountain in the middle of the day, but it would be a pleasure to be up on that airy ridge at dawn.

Nice humid hike up the West trail. Regarding the fermenting berries: I concur.

Honeymoon High  Sucess!

No one has mentioned that in September there are several hundred thousand fermenting/rotting berries (sandalwood berries or guavas?) on the trail. The smell is overpowering. Overpowering in another way is the very narrow knifeblade of ridge betwen the forehead (or maybe nose?) and the nose (or maybe chin?)of the sleeping giant, the true summit. My wife of 2 days declined to join me.
