Parked at the Mt. Rose summit parking lot, crossed the street and followed the dirt road until it ended...then scrambled up to the top. About 1000 feet of elevation gain and great views at top with all the micro-wave equipment. Fairly easy hike.
Parked at the summit lot, crossed the highway, and met snow right off the bat. With just a few small patches of road or earth at the beginning and at the top, the route was snow covered. Followed the contours of the road and then headed straight up for the most part. Snowshoes would have made the going much more effective. The view from the top, while getting my overdose of micro waves, was outstanding.
Amy and I had a nice trip up Slide Mountain from the highway trailhead. The ski area had just closed, so this made for a quiet mid-week outing. Amazing views of the Tahoe Basin and Washoe Valley.
Impromptu run up Slide during a nice peakbagging afternoon around Tahoe, via the dirt road.
Decided to hike up here after visiting point 9081. Mt. Rose Ski Area was closed due to wind. Around an 80-90mph wind was driving sleet horizontally across the summit.
I was about to make a joke about climbing into the ski lift and going to the top several times, but I just remembered that I have actually snowshoed to the top once.
Just followed the dirt road for most of the way up. Still some patches of snow! Sunny and mid 70's with a slight breeze = wonderful hike!
Skinned up at night to wait out an approaching storm. 91+ mph winds!!!!!!!!!!! Black Diamond Bibler, I Love you.
Skied from just below the summit. Trip Report
We just followed the ski run maintenance roads from the parking lot of the old Slide Mountain Ski Resort (now part of Mt Rose resort) around and up the mountain.
It was windy on the summit, and tough to meander through the rocks and electrical equipment to the actual summit.
