a few wrong turns  Sucess!

Parked at the appropriate small parking area and walked to the cabin on the lake. The trail dead ended here so I had to backtrack a bit to find the herd path on the right, which is marked with surveyor’s plastic tape. The herd path is VERY overgrown from the cabin area to the old logging road further up, which is easy to avoid if you merely go straight at one intersection onto the less used logging road from the more heavily used road you are already ascending on. Two hours and twenty five minutes to the summit and the metal ladder on the old tower is still capable of supporting serious weight. All structures other than the metal tower frame have collapsed from time and neglect.

Snow Mountain Trail  Sucess!

Very remote and very rewarding hike. The hairiest part was probably crossing a couple of the bridges in my car.

Lived up to its name  Sucess!

This mountain is probably a pretty easy climb in the summer. When we were there in early May, the trail went from good to very muddy to covered in deep snow. Getting up into the fire tower was pretty scary, even back in 95. But the views were great once you got above the trees. Also saw a moose at the lake!

Gorgeous day!  Sucess!

Spent the previous night in the fog at Horn Pond in the Bigelow Range, but by afternoon it cleared up providing great views from Snow Mtn. No other hikers spotted, only one ATVer down near the parking area.

A little snowy ;)  Sucess!

Had a bit of a time finding the way up through the old clear cuts on the west side. Eventually we found a trail after flushing a moose and got to the top quickly. The tower was still intact as of Dec. 05. No views just freezing fog! Great to see a page on some of the Longfellow mountains.
