Beautiful fall hike!  Sucess!

Gores are spectacular in fall, great hike, even it's only one peak still a grind!

1 peak   Sucess!

Just snow. Fun peak and an easy day trip. A group of 25 goats surrounded two overnight campers. They had a dog and he sat so quietly and never moved or barked. Goats were aggressive with each other but not with the campers. Lots of goats bluff charging each other. Saw some ptarmigans. The snow pass route up the peak is normal class 3, not a ton of exposure.

Grand Traverse Peak, Valhalla, and Snow Peak  Sucess!

Traverse around Deluge Lake: south ridge of Grand Traverse Peak, traverse to Mt. Valhalla, traverse to Snow Peak and down its back side. Talus and tower bypasses on the south ridge of Valhalla are quite annoying and tedious (loose), but all easily doable.

Nice Hike  Sucess!

Once I found the trail to the pass, it was a breeze. 45 minutes after leaving the lake I was on the summit. Some fun scrambling can be had towards the top, but it can be kept to class 2+ as well. Snow is a good intro Gore mountain...seems much easier than other 13ers in the range.

Snow Pass Route

I suppose it was appropriate that snow prevented our summitting snow peak. Rob and I attempted to summit via snow pass from Gore Creek trailhead...upon our arrival at the pass a strong snow storm moved in making a bid for the summit questionable. We opted to head back down and try again another day. All in all, its a fantastic looking mountain and I look forward to coming back!

Snowy SW Ridge x 2  Sucess!

4/20/07 - Approach via Deluge Lake Trail. 3rd class SW Ridge to summit with plenty of snow. Traverse to Valhalla. An awesome spring day in the Gores.

3/17/17 - Approach via Deluge Lake Trail. 3rd class SW Ridge to summit. Near the summit I triggered a small avalanche and even though I was in a safe/secure position when it happened it spooked the hell out of me. As I did a hand traverse on solid rock near the ridge crest, my feet on a fluffy, steep-ish snow slope, I felt minor settling and then noticed an avy running below me, all snow from the last storm sliding on top of the old surface. It stopped after about 200 feet. The crown was maybe 20 feet below my feet.

Deluge Lake Loop  Sucess!

Headed up the Southwest Ridge and then down the Snow Pass Route. The south ridge is definitely more difficult, several 3rd class towers with some option 4th class moves. A few of the early towers could be bypassed, but where is the fun in that?

Also made a side trip to a sub summit between Hail and Valhalla. I don't think it has a nickname, but somehow "Sleet" seems appropriate as its between "Snow" and "Hail". Great views of "Snow" from this vantage point.

Did this loop twice, Oct 7, 2007 and July 12, 2015.

Third ascent of the peak on Aug 20, 2017 with Rachael of the North Ridge up-and-down

Fourth ascent on May 9, 2020 with Jamie, West Couloir up and south face ski down

Fifth ascent on September 19, 2021 with Lindsay, up and down the North Ridge.

N Ridge  Sucess!

Classic Gore Range. It looks so much gnarlier than it actually is from Deluge Lake. You could make it up and back at no harder than class 2 if careful.

fun attempt

Decided to attempt a summit run from the Gore Lake basin. Made it to within 150 feet of the summit on the south western ridge when a gap that was just a little too wide to jump with no way around turned this attempt back.

Route Climbed: Snow Pass  Sucess!

Beautiful short trip in the Gores - quickly becoming my favorite close-to-home range. From Deluge Lake, with my friends Scott and Karyn.

Next stop, Snow Peak  Sucess!

I climbed Snow Peak after I climbed Mt. Valhalla. I was a little concerned at the snow high on the mountain, but as it turned out, I only had to take maybe four steps in it. What a cool peak! It looks pretty wicked from certain vantage points, but it isn’t very hard to climb at all, and the route is fun. On the way back down, I decided to climb PT 12,835 from the saddle.

A good one. Nice scramble on the ridge. In the haste to get going on this unscheduled climb I left my food on the floor of the cabin in the basin and came back to see signs that we weren't alone up there. I curse the varmit that got into my grub!

Route Climbed: Snow Pass Route Date Climbed: June 13, 2004  Sucess!

One of my favorite mountains now... I ascended Snow Peak with colonelpyat, Kane, and my dog Sopris. A very fun climb on a beautiful afternoon. We were on the summit around 4pm. I can't say enough good things about this mountain.
