That train

Hi Bryan, I think this is the only photo of the Snowdon railway I've ever liked. It shows a great juxtaposition between the hand of man and the hand of nature, or at least a highly modified version of nature. The Llanberis Quarries in the background, Llechog in the foreground and a small train making its lonely way through an immense landscape.

Thanks for posting, I shall have to make place it on the main Snowdon page. FYI, I’ve done a wee bit of an update of said page using quite a few of your photos. It’s not finished yet as I’m missing some photos, but I’m back up in the area the weekend after next to grab the remainder of the shots I need.

Many thanks Dan. I did take a traditional style photo of the train as I came down from Snowdon on my way to Garnedd Ugain. But it was just a very ordinary photo. And I did expect to get a much better view, as well as being on my own, from the summit of Snowdon's neighbour.

I'll check out your main Snowdon page and I will be working on my TR from last winter soon!

I agree with Dan - a very elegant shot you took of the Snowdon train! Interesting to see that it's exactly the same train as the one going up Wolfgangseer Schafberg in Austria and the Brienzer Rothorn in Switzerland!

Many thanks. But I do admit to having been a photographer of steam railway locomotives since I was 12 years old. So just occasionally I choose a good location and get the photo right. Never climbed circa 2,500 feet to take a steam loco photo before though! LOL!

I had found the location in winter 2009/2010 when the trains don't run, (railway under feet of snow at the top), so was pleased to have such a good day when I went back to take the photo. And enjoy a superb day walking in the Snowdonian mountains.
